A Call-to-Action for Clinicians to Implement Evidence-Based Best Practices When Caring for Women with Uterine Fibroids

Nicholas Leyland et al.

Summary: Uterine fibroids are common and can have significant impacts on women's physical and psychological well-being. There are various treatment options available, with medical treatments and minimally invasive procedures being preferred by most patients. Patient-centered, uterine-preserving procedures should be prioritized based on individual goals and clinical scenarios. Hysterectomy may be necessary for some patients. Recent challenges, such as COVID-19 and changes in evidence-based therapies, highlight the need for updated recommendations for women's health providers. This call-to-action aims to empower healthcare providers to optimize care for women with uterine fibroids.

Transvaginal versus Port-Site Specimen Retrieval after Laparoscopic Myomectomy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Antonio Simone Lagana et al.

Summary: Comparing surgical outcomes of transvaginal retrieval (TVSR) and port-site specimen retrieval (PSSR) after laparoscopic myomectomy (LM), there were no significant differences in operative time, myoma retrieval time, blood loss, intra-operative complication rate, and hospital stay. However, there was a lower need for postoperative rescue analgesics in women who underwent TVSR.

Outcomes of In-bag Transvaginal Extraction in a Series of 692 Laparoscopic Myomectomies: Results from a Large Retrospective Analysis

Antonio Simone Lagana et al.

Summary: Transvaginal extraction is a feasible method for retrieving surgical specimens after laparoscopic myomectomy. Based on the study of 692 women, it was found that specimen weight was positively correlated with longer operative time, intraoperative blood loss, and length of hospital stay.

Surgical approach to uterine myomatosis in patients with infertility: open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgery; results according to the quantity of fibroids

Hector Salvador Godoy Morales et al.

Summary: This study compares different approaches to myomectomy, including laparotomic, laparoscopic, and robotic surgery. The results show that laparotomic myomectomy is more effective in terms of the number and weight of fibroids, while robotic surgery takes longer. Minimally invasive routes have better outcomes in achieving pregnancy regardless of the number of fibroids. Therefore, surgical approach decisions should take into account various factors.
