Mycosynthesis, Characterization of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles, and Its Assessment in Various Biological Activities

Asif Kamal et al.

Summary: In recent years, nanotechnology has emerged as an important field for the synthesis of nanoparticles using biological processes. Mushroom extract is a prominent method in biological synthesis due to its abundance of biologically active compounds. In this study, Zinc Oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) were successfully synthesized using Daedalea sp. mushroom extract. The nanoparticles exhibited irregular morphology, with an average size of 14.58 nm. Various analytical techniques confirmed the synthesis of ZnO NPs, which were then tested for biocompatibility, antifungal, antileishmanial, and antibacterial activities. The ZnO nanoparticles showed strong antibacterial effects against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, as well as high antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger fungus.

Green synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles using Pisonia Alba leaf extract and its antibacterial activity

M. MuthuKathija et al.

Summary: Pisonia Alba leaf extract was used as the reducing and capping agent to produce green zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles. Various techniques including UV-Vis, XRD, FTIR, SEM with EDS were employed to characterize the ZnO nanoparticles. The UV-Vis spectroscopy confirmed the synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles with specific optical characteristics at an absorption peak of 378 nm. The FTIR analysis proposed the involvement of phenolic chemicals, alkaloids, terpenoids, and proteins in the nucleation and stability of ZnO nanoparticles. XRD and SEM with EDX demonstrated the hexagonal structure and morphology similarity with aloe vera leaves, respectively. The antibacterial activity of the green synthesized ZnO nanoparticles against both gram positive and gram negative bacteria was evaluated, showing potent antimicrobial properties.
