Adsorption of dibenzothiophene in model diesel fuel by amarula waste biomass as a low-cost adsorbent

Tsepiso Kabi et al.

Summary: This study focused on the use of amarula waste biomass as an adsorbent to mitigate waste management and land pollution. It was found that amarula shell waste had the highest adsorption efficiency, and the biomass performed better at lower adsorption temperatures. The cellulose and hemicellulose structures in the waste biomass played a major role in reducing the content of harmful substances in model diesel fuel.

Hexavalent chromium removal from water: adsorption properties of in natura and magnetic nanomodified sugarcane bagasse

Thais Eduarda Abilio et al.

Summary: Biosorption using natural and nanomodified sugarcane bagasse with ferromagnetic nanoparticles was found to be effective in removing hexavalent chromium from water. Characterization and kinetic experiments showed that nanomodification slightly improved the efficiency of Cr(VI) sorption and facilitated the removal of Cr(VI)-containing biosorbents from water.

Remediation of Cu(II) and its adsorption mechanism in aqueous system by novel magnetic biochar derived from co-pyrolysis of sewage sludge and biomass

Bing Zhao et al.

Summary: The novel magnetic biochar derived from sewage sludge and biomass co-pyrolysis, loaded with nanosized iron oxide particles, showed increased adsorption capacity and separation efficiency. The MBC-5 exhibited remarkable adsorption capacity for Cu(II) contamination, with a wide pH range of 3.0-6.0, and maintained high efficiency after multiple cycles. The adsorption mechanism involved physical adsorption, ion exchange, and electrostatic surface complexation on the biochar surface.

Simultaneous removal of Cu(II) and reactive green 6 dye from wastewater using immobilized mixed fungal biomass and its recovery

A. Saravanan et al.

Summary: The study investigated the use of immobilized fungal biomass for the simultaneous removal of Cu(II) ion and Reactive Green 6 dye from water. Optimal conditions included 25 mg/L of adsorbate concentration, 60 minutes equilibrium time, 2.5 g of fungal biomass, temperature of 303 K, and pH of 5.0. Langmuir isotherm model showed high correlation, while pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order kinetics were found to be suitable for Cu(II) ion and Reactive Green dye removal.

Effect of cations on the enhanced adsorption of cationic dye in Fe3O4-loaded biochar and mechanism

Jinxi Xie et al.

Summary: Fe3O4-loaded biochar (MBC) was synthesized through oxygen-limited pyrolysis of FeCl3-impregnated sorghum straw biomass, showing higher adsorption capacity for cationic methylene blue (MB). The presence of cations with different valences positively affected the adsorption capacities of MBC for MB, and there was synergistic adsorption between MB and Cu2+/Zn2+/Cr3+. The mechanistic study indicated that MB molecules and Cu2+/Zn2+/Cr3+ acted as a bridge between adsorbed and unadsorbed pollutants, leading to improved synergistic adsorption between dyes and heavy metal cations.
