A Comparative Study of Treatment Methods of Raw Sugarcane Bagasse for Adsorption of Oil and Diesel

Y. G. Anusha et al.

Summary: Current environmental trends indicate increasing pollutant concentrations in water bodies, emphasizing the need to remove and eliminate pollutants from the water due to their adverse effects on the ecosystem. This study explores the feasibility of utilizing sugarcane bagasse (SCB) to remove oil and diesel from water without converting SCB into biochar. Chemically treated SCB demonstrated improved sorption abilities with minimal pre-treatment, low input materials, and environmental toxicity. Sorption experiments and characterization studies were conducted to evaluate the oil or diesel removal efficiency and the intrinsic morphology and structure of the sorbent, respectively.

Silver withdrawal from X-Ray waste via leaching and sorption techniques: Appraisal ideal treatment factors

Heba A. El-Gawad et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the extraction of silver from X-ray waste. The impact of various operating parameters, including leaching temperature, incitation speed, leaching time, and leaching agent concentration, on the silver leaching process using nitric acid was examined. The results showed that the maximum silver ion concentration in the leaching solution was 9284.7 mg/kg films (61.9%), under optimal conditions. The sorption technique using sugarcane bagasse as a sorbent treated with sulfuric acid was then applied to recover silver from the leaching solution. Factors such as sorption time, solution pH, mixing velocity, and sorbent quantity were optimized to achieve a silver sorption percentage of 96.68%.

Phosphoric acid assisted synthesis of fluorescent carbon dots from waste biomass for detection of Cr(VI) in aqueous media

Juri Goswami et al.

Summary: A green and facile method for synthesizing carbon dots (CDs) using lignocellulosic biomass (banana stem) and phosphoric acid has been developed. The CDs were used to construct a fluorescent sensor for detecting Cr(VI). The fluorescence behavior of the CDs was investigated in detail, and their optical and structural properties were determined. The prepared CDs exhibited excellent fluorescence properties and could detect Cr(VI) at low concentrations. They were successfully applied to quantitatively detect Cr(VI) in real water samples.
