Predictions of structural stability, elastic anisotropy, and thermodynamic properties of TM5Si3C (TM = Cr, Mo, and W)

Qiang Fan et al.

Summary: In this study, the authors investigated the structural stability, elastic anisotropy, and thermodynamic properties of TM5Si3C (TM = Cr, Mo, and W) using first-principles calculations. The results showed good agreement with experimental data, particularly for the lattice constants and elastic constants of Mo5Si3C. The elastic anisotropy of TM5Si3C was analyzed through various methods, and the order of elastic anisotropy was found to be W5Si3C > Mo5Si3C > Cr5Si3C. Additionally, the authors determined the hardness, Debye temperature, sound velocity, and Gruneisen constant based on the elastic constants, and calculated the thermal conductivity of TM5Si3C using the Clark model. The thermodynamic properties were also discussed.

Analysis of the structural, elastic constants, electronic, optical, dynamical, and thermodynamic in dicalcium silicate with various pressures

Hai-Jun Hou et al.

Summary: Theoretical simulation using first-principles calculations is employed to study the structural, anisotropic elasticity, electronic properties, dynamics, and thermodynamics of gamma-C2S under different pressures. It is found that gamma-C2S exhibits mechanical stability and significant anisotropy. Infrared active and inactive vibration modes are identified based on density functional perturbation theory, and the heat capacity and entropy are calculated using the phonon method and quasi-harmonic Debye model method. These results can provide reference for future experimental investigations.

Impact of Sn on the Ti/Ge solid-state reaction: Phase formation sequence, morphological and electrical properties

Andrea Quintero et al.

Summary: The presence of Sn was found to impact the phase formation sequence between Ti thin films and Ge(Sn) layers. The addition of Sn delayed the formation of the Ti6Ge5 phase while promoting the formation of Ti5Ge3 and TiGe2 phases at lower temperatures. This is attributed to different reaction mechanisms for the formation of these phases.

Lattice stability and point defect energetics of TiSi2 and TiGe2 allotropes from first-principles calculations

David L. Brown et al.

Summary: This study used density functional theory to investigate the phase stabilities and point defect energetics of TiSi2 and TiGe2 allotropes, focusing on the C49 and C54 phases. The results revealed that the ground state structure of TiGe2 is the C54 phase with low sheet resistance, while TiSi2 predominantly forms the less desirable C49 phase with higher resistance. Ge atoms were found to introduce additional covalent bond stability for the C54 phase, impacting its enthalpy of formation.
