Ag nanoparticles decorated ZnSnO3 hollow cubes for enhanced formaldehyde sensing performance at low temperature

Zenghui Sima et al.

Summary: The ZnSnO3 hollow cubes were successfully modified by Ag nanoparticles, which generated Schottky barrier-type junctions and enhanced the sensing performance. The gas-sensing results showed excellent response value (26.7) towards 50 ppm formaldehyde at 100 degrees C, as well as fast response/recovery time (12/18 s), remarkable reproducibility, and outstanding stability. The sensing mechanism was proposed based on the structure of ZnSnO3 hollow cubes and the catalytic activity of Ag NPs. This work confirms that Ag NPs modification is an efficient strategy to improve the sensing properties of ZnSnO3-based gas sensors.

MoO3/Ti3C2Tx MXene nanocomposites with rapid response for enhanced ethanol-sensing at a low temperature

Shuai Zhang et al.

Summary: MoO3/Ti3C2Tx MXene nanocomposites were successfully prepared by a simple hydrothermal synthesis method, achieving effective monitoring of low-concentration ethanol gas (1.61@1 ppm). The MoO3/Ti3C2Tx MXene nanocomposites have a doubled specific surface area (61.044 m2/g) compared to Ti3C2Tx MXene (33.385 m2/g), providing more reaction centers and active sites for ethanol molecules. The gas-sensing results showed outstanding selectivity, reproducibility, and fast response-recovery (10/49 s). The possible sensing mechanism of the composite was discussed in detail with density functional theory (DFT). This work provides a new sensing design strategy for detecting VOCs at low-temperature.

Temperature dependent selectivity switching from methanol to formaldehyde using ZnO nanorod based chemi-resistive sensor

M. Sinha et al.

Summary: The operating temperature is an important factor in controlling the selectivity of a chemiresistive type sensor for gas/vapor detection. By regulating the temperature dependent adsorption/desorption process, the selectivity of the sensor can be switched between different target gases, making it suitable for practical applications. In this study, a high performance, low temperature, and versatile VOC sensor was developed using hydrothermally synthesized ZnO nanorod networks. The selectivity of the sensor prototype was successfully switched from methanol to formaldehyde by adjusting the operating temperature. The sensor exhibited high sensitivity, selectivity, repeatability, and a low response time, making it a reliable VOC sensor for practical applications.

MOFs-derived In2O3/ZnO/Ti3C2TX MXene ternary nanocomposites for ethanol gas sensing at room temperature

Shuai Zhang et al.

Summary: In this article, MOFs-derived In2O3/ZnO hollow nanotubes were successfully combined with Ti3C2TX MXene to detect ethanol at room temperature. The morphology and composition of the nanocomposite were characterized. The sensor showed a response of 2.15 to 10 ppm ethanol gas at 25°C and 30% RH, with a response-recovery time of 85/112 s. Gas selectivity of the nanocomposite was analyzed by DFT calculations. This study presents a new strategy for ethanol gas detection at room temperature.

The microstructural and mechanical behavior of in-situ synthesized ZrB2-ZrC and ZrB2-SiC-ZrC composites: A comparative study

Jyoti et al.

Summary: In this study, ZrB2-ZrC and ZrB2-SiC-ZrC based composites were fabricated using an in-situ reduction mechanism. The addition of Si resulted in the formation of nano-sized SiC grains along with ZrB2-ZrC particles. The densification, microstructure, and mechanical properties of the composites were investigated, and it was found that the inclusion of Si improved the densification and resulted in finer microstructure. The strength of the composites decreased, while the indentation hardness increased.
