Low-temperature and high-selectivity butanone sensor based on porous Fe2O3 nanosheets synthesized by phoenix tree leaf template

Wei-Xin Liu et al.

Summary: The recent development of gas sensors with high selectivity to volatile ketones at low temperatures has attracted significant attention. In this study, phoenix tree leaves were used as a template to replicate biomorphic Fe2O3 nanosheets, which exhibited a unique microstructure with broad pore structure and large surface area. This Fe2O3-600 sensor achieved highly selective detection of butanone at 170 degrees C, showing a high sensing response (S = 25.8) and short response time (Tres = 5 s) to 100 ppm butanone vapor. The sensor also demonstrated a low detection limit (100 ppb), good reversibility, and anti-humidity. The sensing mechanism of Fe2O3-600 nanosheets to butanone was explored using O2-TPD, XPS, and GC-MS techniques.

Surface double oxygen defect engineering in button-shaped porous CeO2/WO2.9 heterostructures for excellent n-butanol detection at room temperature

Qi Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of CeO2/WO2.9 composites with tunable structure and thickness were fabricated by innovating the addition of H2WO4 during the hydrothermal process. The optimal Ce/W-0.25 sensors showed a higher response value of 23.68 to 100 ppm n-butanol at room temperature compared to pure CeO2 (1.26) at 200 degrees C. The unique surface double oxygen defect engineering between CeO2 and WO2.9 played a significant role in gas sensing, the formation of the CeO2-WO2.9 heterojunction, and the effective surface/interface transport mechanism. The electron transfer between WO2.9 and CeO2 facilitated the interconversion between Ce3+ and Ce4+ driven by oxygen defects on the surface of CeO2. This work provides new insights and a facile fabrication pathway for developing novel n-butanol gas sensors with excellent sensing performance at room temperature.

Effects of calcination temperature on the n-butanol gas-sensing properties of LaFeO3 nanotubes

Wenjun Wang et al.

Summary: LaFeO3 nanotubes were prepared using the electrostatic spinning method and calcined at different temperatures. The impact of calcined temperatures on the morphological properties of LaFeO3 nanotubes was investigated using various methods. The results showed that the surface roughness of LaFeO3 nanotubes increased when the calcination temperature exceeded 700 degrees C, enhancing the gas-sensitive properties towards n-butanol. The response of LaFeO3 nanotubes to n-butanol at 150 degrees C was in the range of 45.3-100 ppm, with a low detection limit of 0.3 ppm. Additionally, the LaFeO3 nanotubes calcined at 700 degrees C exhibited excellent selectivity for n-butanol. A mechanism for the improvement of gas-sensitive properties by calcination temperature was also proposed.

Zhengfang Qu et al.

Summary: A candy-like WO3/Fe2O3 nanocomposite with excellent performance was prepared by modifying the content of Fe element in the n-n heterojunction WO3/Fe2O3 nanocomposites. The candy-like nanocomposite exhibited better selectivity and sensitivity for sensing triethylamine gases at a lower operating temperature (260 °C) compared with the gas sensor prepared with WO3 alone. The feasibility was verified through investigation of the sensing mechanism and real sample tests. A TEA gas sensor with low limit of detection, short response/recovery time (15/162 s), and high sensitivity was successfully developed, demonstrating good stability, selectivity, and practical application value.
