Linear Regression Equations To Predict β-Lactam, Macrolide, Lincosamide, and Fluoroquinolone MICs from Molecular Antimicrobial Resistance Determinants in Streptococcus pneumoniae

Walter Demczuk et al.

Summary: Antimicrobial resistance in Streptococcus pneumoniae is a threat to public health. Linear regression modeling can accurately predict the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of different antimicrobial drugs. Obtaining resistance information at the molecular level can help monitor dynamics and fill surveillance gaps.

Invasive Pneumococcal Disease: Concerning Trends in Serotype 19A Notifications in New Zealand

Andrew Anglemyer et al.

Summary: New Zealand's shift from PCV13 to PCV10 has led to an increasing number of serotype 19A cases in young children and a rise in penicillin-resistant isolates. It is necessary for NZ to reconsider its choice of pneumococcal vaccine.

Characterization of Emerging Serotype 19A Pneumococcal Strains in Invasive Disease and Carriage, Belgium

Stefanie Desmet et al.

Summary: After switching from PCV13 to PCV10, there was a rapid reemergence of serotype 19A invasive pneumococcal disease in children in Belgium. Whole-genome sequencing revealed 24 sequence types, with ST416 and ST994 being predominant during the PCV10 period.

Dynamic changes in paediatric invasive pneumococcal disease after sequential switches of conjugate vaccine in Belgium: a national retrospective observational study

Stefanie Desmet et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the impact of sequential use of different pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCV7, PCV13, PCV10) on the incidence of pediatric invasive pneumococcal disease and serotype distribution in Belgium from 2007 to 2018. Results showed a significant decrease in pediatric invasive pneumococcal disease during the PCV13 period, followed by an increase during the PCV10 period, mainly due to a significant rise in 19A serotype cases.

Whole genome characterization of Streptococcus pneumoniae from respiratory and blood cultures collected from Canadian hospitals before and after PCV-13 implementation in Canada: Focus on serotypes 22F and 33F from CANWARD 2007-2018

Alyssa R. Golden et al.

Summary: This study characterized invasive and respiratory Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates collected from Canadian hospitals pre and post-PCV13 implementation, particularly focusing on serotypes 22F and 33F using whole genome sequencing. The results showed emergence of new drug-resistant serotypes and different performance of vaccine serotypes at different time points.
