Environmental monitory and impact assessment of solid waste dumpsite using multispectral imagery in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state, Nigeria

E. D. Rowland et al.

Summary: This research utilized open data multispectral imagery to monitor and assess the impact of dumpsites on the environment in Yenagoa Metropolis, Bayelsa State Nigeria. The results revealed higher LST and lower SAVI, NDVI, and G-SWIR values around the dumpsites, indicating environmental pollution. Additionally, analysis of heavy metals in river water indicated high pollution levels due to illegal dumpsites.

Sensitivity of C-Band SAR Polarimetric Variables to the Directionality of Surface Roughness Parameters

Zohreh Alijani et al.

Summary: The study revealed that polarimetric variables are more sensitive to surface roughness parameters at different incidence angles. Significantly stronger correlations between polarimetric variables and surface roughness parameters were observed when surface roughness measurements were aligned with the satellite view angle. The terrestrial laser scanner can provide more reliable results in measuring surface roughness parameters compared to traditional pin profilers.

Estimating Evapotranspiration from Commonly Occurring Urban Plant Species Using Porometry and Canopy Stomatal Conductance

Syed Hamza Askari et al.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the feasibility of using porometry to estimate ET rates for urban plants, with novel approaches proposed to address challenges in converting leaf stomatal conductance to leaf ET and scaling from leaf ET to canopy ET. The experiment measured ET from three commonly occurring urban plant species and demonstrated expected trends, showing clear differences between species and reproducible decreasing rates of ET in response to reductions in soil moisture content.
