Canopy Effects on Rainfall Partition and Throughfall Drop Size Distribution in a Tropical Dry Forest

Jose Bandeira Brasil et al.

Summary: The relationships between canopy development, gross rainfall, and throughfall characteristics were assessed in a tropical dry forest in Northeast Brazil. The study found that the proportion of rainfall converted into throughfall decreases as leaf density increases. Regardless of the stage of canopy development, the number of throughfall drops was always higher than that of gross rainfall for events higher than 3 mm, indicating fragmentation of raindrops by the vegetation canopy.

The influence of rainfall interception on the erosive power of raindrops under the birch tree

Anita Zore et al.

Summary: Rainfall interception by vegetation can reduce the erosive power of raindrops, thus mitigating soil erosion losses. This study investigates the seasonal influence of rainfall interception on the erosive power of raindrops under birch trees in an urban park.

Commercial afforestation can deliver effective climate change mitigation under multiple decarbonisation pathways

Eilidh J. Forster et al.

Summary: The study shows that commercial conifer forests can achieve up to 269% more greenhouse gas mitigation than semi-natural forests over 100 years. The growth rate of the forests is the most important factor affecting greenhouse gas mitigation, and typically, harvesting stands have higher mitigation effects compared to unharvested stands.

Relation of influencing variables and weather conditions on rainfall partitioning by birch and pine trees

Katarina Zabret et al.

Summary: General weather conditions have a strong influence on rainfall interception, with rainfall amount and number of raindrops being identified as the most influential variables. Different years and tree species show varying impacts on rainfall partitioning.

How Characteristics of a Rainfall Event and the Meteorological Conditions Determine the Development of Stemflow: A Case Study of a Birch Tree

Katarina Zabret et al.

Summary: Rainfall partitioning involves three components: rainfall interception, throughfall, and stemflow, with the latter being influenced by various factors. A study analyzing the impact of rainfall event characteristics and phenoseasons on stemflow development identified four characteristic types of stemflow response. These responses provide insights into the proportion of rainfall reaching the ground as stemflow.
