Dependence of wetting on cavitation during the spreading of a filler droplet on the ultrasonically agitated Al substrate

Zhengwei Li et al.

Summary: The cavitation characteristics during the spreading of a pure Sn liquid droplet subjected to ultrasonication were studied. Ultrasonic vibration realized the spreading of Sn droplet on the nonwetting pure Al substrate, but the oxide layer at the spreading front is difficult to remove. The high-speed photography result showed the presence of a noncavitation region consistently at the spreading front, and the width of the noncavitation region increased with the size of the spreading area. The bubble density decreased during spreading due to the decreased acoustic pressure.

High speed imaging and numerical simulations of cavitation characteristic during the spreading of GaIn melt under ultrasonication

Zhengwei Li et al.

Summary: The characteristics of cavitation bubbles during the spreading of eutectic GaIn liquid droplet subjected to ultrasonication were studied in-situ by high-speed photography. It was found that the bubble density decreases gradually during the droplet spreading process and cavitation exhibits strong/weak changes with a periodicity of dozens of acoustic periods.

Influence of rigid wall on the nonlinear pulsation of nearby bubble

Xun Wang et al.

Summary: This paper mainly focuses on the nonlinear pulsation of a bubble near the rigid wall. The dynamics of near-wall bubble and free bubble are discussed, and it is found that as the driving acoustic pressure amplitude increases, the nonlinear pulsation of the bubble becomes more intense. The paper also investigates the impact of decreasing the viscosity of the host liquid on the nonlinear pulsation. Furthermore, the study shows that the rigid wall enhances the nonlinearity of nearby bubble and shifts the frequency band corresponding to chaos around the resonant frequency of free bubble downward.

Jetting and migration of a laser-induced cavitation bubble in a rectangular channel

Emil-Alexandru Brujan et al.

Summary: The jetting behavior and migratory characteristics of a laser-induced cavitation bubble in a rectangular channel were investigated experimentally and numerically. The study revealed various aspects of the bubble dynamics, such as the formation of liquid jets, bubble displacement, and interaction with the channel walls. Numerical simulations showed that liquid jets can reach velocities up to 100 m/s, and the bubble displacement in contact with the sidewalls of the channel can be as much as 350 μm.

Summary: This study investigates the flow disturbance generated by an ultrasonically driven gas bubble confined in a narrow gap, revealing the doubled shear-stress magnitudes during collapse driven by ultrasonic signal and the different collapse regimes identified. The study highlights the differences in physics between acoustically driven bubbles and conventional laser-induced bubbles in experiments.

Effects of surface tension on the dynamics of a single micro bubble near a rigid wall in an ultrasonic field

Hao Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of liquid surface tension on the dynamics of acoustic cavitation bubbles, revealing that low surface tension reduces bubble stability, leading to earlier collapse and farther distance from a rigid wall. Additionally, surface tension influences micro-jet speeds, highlighting the role of surfactants in optimizing acoustic cavitation.
