Evaluation and comparison of different detection technologies on simulated voids near buried pipes

Dong Wang et al.

Summary: Erosion voids near buried pipes can shorten the lifespan of infrastructure assets, but accurately detecting these voids has been a challenge. By conducting a blind experiment, different erosion void detection technologies were evaluated and recommendations were made for their applications.

Impact of erosion voids and internal corrosion on concrete pipes under traffic loads

Bin Li et al.

Summary: The disaster testing system of buried pipes developed in this work is innovatively used to examine different types of pipes, and the measured data are verified by the finite element models. Parametric analyses reveal the statistical relationship between the maximum principal stress on the pipe and the defect parameters, and a multiparameter formula is derived to predict the maximum stress on the pipes. The results fully reveal the mechanism of the combined effect of corrosion and voids on the mechanical properties of concrete pipes.

Rank-Full Arrays for 2-D Mirrored Aperture Synthesis

Zhenyu Lei et al.

Summary: The arrangement of the antenna array of mirrored aperture synthesis (MAS) plays a crucial role in determining the transformation matrix for solving cosine visibilities. This letter introduces a new method for calculating the rank of the transformation matrix (RTM) and proves that a rank-full array (RFA) cannot be achieved when all reflectors are made of metal. However, by introducing a reflector made of a magnetic conductor, a rank-full array can be obtained.

Experimental Research on Evaluation of Soil Water Content Using Ground Penetrating Radar and Wavelet Packet-Based Energy Analysis

Sheng Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, ground penetrating radar (GPR) was used to detect and evaluate changes in soil water content, with a new wavelet packet-based energy analysis method proposed for assessing soil water content. The research showed a highly correlated linear relationship between the wavelet packet-based energy indexes (WPEI) and soil water contents, indicating the feasibility and accuracy of the method. The large-area, continuous scanning measurement method of GPR was found to be suitable for evaluating soil water contents in various contexts.
