Melting Distribution of Armature in Electromagnetic Rail Launcher

Lixue Chen et al.

Summary: This article develops a 3-D transient melting calculation model for the electromagnetic rail launcher, considering multiple factors such as electromagnetic fields and heat transfer. Through experimental verification, the simulation model accurately describes the deeper melting locations but lacks precision for shallower melting. The analysis reveals that the deepest crater forms at the point of armature melting initiation, and contact resistance heat and body heat are critical factors in this process.

Modelling of magneto-electro-thermo-mechanical coupled behavior for the conductors under powerful impulse current and high-velocity friction

Bao Zhang et al.

Summary: When conductors are subjected to powerful impulse current, high-velocity friction, and a strong time-dependent magnetic field, the response of the structure is significantly influenced by these extraordinary environments. A transient multi-field coupling mathematical model is proposed to study the magnetic field, thermal field, and structural deformation, as well as their coupling characteristics. The model considers the effects of multi-field coupling and structural deformation, resulting in a more accurate description of the magneto-electro-thermo-mechanical response, multiphysics characteristics, and velocity skin effects. Experimental validation confirms the accuracy of the model.

Modelling of magneto-electro-thermo-mechanical coupled behavior of the lubricating liquid film for the electromagnetic launch

Bao Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a magneto-electro-thermo-mechanical coupled model for lubricating liquid film by considering more suitable thermal boundary conditions, which can better describe the flow characteristics and thermal parameters of the liquid film under different liquid thicknesses. The results show that lubrication with liquid metal can significantly reduce the temperature of the armature contact surface and interior, which is beneficial for the durable design of the electromagnetic launcher.

Numerical Calculation of Magnetic-Thermal Coupling and Optimization Analysis for Velocity Skin Effect

Pengfei Zhou et al.

Summary: The explicit finite difference method was used in this article to solve the magnetic-thermal coupling phenomenon of velocity skin effect (VSE) and analyze the skin effect phenomenon at different velocities. The results showed that the layered rail can weaken the adverse effect of VSE, while the layered armature may cause local temperature to be too high. Combining the layered rail with the layered armature can significantly improve the high temperature of the armature tail caused by the VSE.
