This paper focuses on studying the impact wear of superalloy Co-based HVOF-sprayed coatings, CoCrW and CoCrAlYTaCSi, using the dynamic impact test. The impact wear of the coatings is compared with erosion wear and sliding/abrasion wear tests, confirming the correlation between impact wear resistance and resistance to solid particle erosion.
The dynamic impact test is a tool for investigating the impact wear of the coated samples. In the dynamic impact test, the indenter successively impacts the same place of the sample surface with a constant, well-defined impact load and frequency. This paper focuses on the study of the impact wear of superalloy Co-based HVOF-sprayed coatings, CoCrW and CoCrAlYTaCSi. The impact wear of the coatings was discussed with respect to their mechanical properties and microstructure. The results of the impact wear of the coatings were compared with the results of the erosion wear tests and the sliding/abrasion wear tests. The correlation of impact wear resistance with the resistance of solid particle erosion was confirmed, on contrary to abrasive and sliding wear.
