Wear-resistance enhancement of graphene oxide/zirconia nanosheets composite coatings based on 2D-2D interlayer sliding structure

Jinyu Zhu et al.

Summary: Large-size and ultra-thin two-dimensional zirconia nanosheets were synthesized and used to construct a composite coating with graphene oxide. This coating showed excellent wear-resistance and friction-reduction properties. Compared to the coating with graphene oxide-zirconia nanoparticles, the 2D-2D interlayer sliding structure of the nanosheets contributed to the lower friction coefficient and longer service life.

A comprehensive review on ultrathin, multi-functionalized, and smart graphene and graphene-based composite protective coatings

Siming Ren et al.

Summary: A new generation of ultrathin, functional, self-repairing graphene-based coatings is emerging, showing excellent potential for corrosion protection. This paper summarizes the barrier mechanisms, existing questions, and limitations pertaining to ultrathin graphene coatings, and systematically discusses the factors affecting the corrosion resistance of graphene-based composite coatings. The advantages and self-repairing mechanisms of smart graphene-based composite coatings are highlighted, along with the challenges associated with graphene and graphene-based composite coatings for metal protection.

Effect of etching and reduction time on the structure, performance, and stability of GO-based membrane for water purification

Fan-xin Kong et al.

Summary: Holey graphene oxide (HGO) and reduced HGO (rHGO) membranes were fabricated to investigate the effects of etching and reduction time on membrane structure, stability, and rejection performance. The results showed that etching time increased the water flux and decreased Na2SO4 rejection for HGO membranes, while also improving membrane stability. On the other hand, increasing reduction time decreased the water flux but slightly improved salt rejection for rHGO membranes. Overall, these findings emphasize the importance of considering d-spacing, tortuosity, and porosity in membrane design and fabrication.

Environmentally-adaptive epoxy lubricating coating using self-assembled pMXene@polytetrafluoroethylene core-shell hybrid as novel additive

Yawen Yang et al.

Summary: In this work, a novel lubricating additive was designed and synthesized via self-assembling of wrapped PTFE nanoparticles by exfoliated MXene nanosheets. The pMXene@polytetrafluoroethylene (pMXene@PTFE) hybrid was introduced into epoxy coating and painted to substrate, showing excellent friction-reduction and wear-resistance properties in multiple environments. These improvements are mainly attributed to the lubricating synergistic effect of MXene sheets and PTFE hybrid additive, good dispersibility and adhesion of composite additive, as well as the formation of protective film on the upper counterpart.

Silk fibroin-Ti3C2TX hybrid nanofiller enhance corrosion protection for waterborne epoxy coatings under deep sea environment

Junfeng Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel silk fibroin-Ti3C2Tx (SF-Ti3C2Tx) hybrid nanofiller was synthesized and added to waterborne epoxy coating to enhance its anti-corrosion ability, especially in simulated deep sea environments. The rough surface of SF-Ti3C2Tx nanosheets, excellent compatibility with the resin matrix, and ability to fill inherent defects of the coating contribute to the improved corrosion protection.

Copper-based tungsten coating by CVD: Microstructure, thermal shock resistance and interfacial bond force

Xueying Han et al.

Summary: Tungsten coating fabricated on a pure copper substrate using chemical vapor deposition showed good thermal shock resistance at 500 degrees C, withstanding 50 cycles of thermal shock at 1000 degrees C without visible failure. The effect of thermal shock frequency on bonding force was significant, with bonding strength decreasing sharply after 30 thermal shocks at different temperatures.
