Increased knowledge levels of patients with diabetes in resource-limited communities after receiving peer-led education

Nobuyuki Kobayashi et al.

Summary: Diabetes self-management education through peer support is beneficial in regions with limited medical resources. The study evaluated the effects of education provided by trained peers on diabetes-related indicators in Filipino patients. Participants who received peer-led education showed increased knowledge of diabetes and its complications compared to before the education. Expanding patients' knowledge about diabetes should be included when organizing peer-led education in regions with limited medical resources.

A preliminary study on the effects of the Peer-Led Self-Management (PLSM) program on self-efficacy, self-management, and physiological measures in older adults with diabetes: A block randomized controlled trial

Wen-Chun Chen et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the positive effects of the peer-led self-management program on older adults with diabetes, including improved self-efficacy, self-management, and physiological measures. The experimental group showed significantly lower body weight and BMI measures, as well as better HbA1c, total cholesterol, and triglycerides levels compared to the control group. The preliminary findings suggest the potential benefits and feasibility of the PLSM program.

The effect of peer support in diabetes self-management education on glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Akhmad Azmiardi et al.

Summary: This study found that DSME integrated with peer support effectively reduced glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. Programs with smaller participants groups, shorter interventions, weekly meetings, and closer group sessions improved glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of a mobile application intervention named DIAGURU on glycemic control in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Results showed that the intervention focusing on lifestyle modification and medication management, in addition to routine medical treatment, led to better glycemic control compared to a control group. The decrease in HbA1c levels was statistically significant, demonstrating the potential of m-Health in managing chronic diseases like diabetes mellitus.
