Comparison of station-based and free-floating bikeshare systems as feeder modes to the metro

Long Cheng et al.

Summary: Shared micro-mobility has been growing rapidly, and the coordinated development of different modes can improve urban public transport connectivity. This study compared the spatial and temporal patterns of station-based bikeshare systems (SBBS) and free-floating bikeshare systems (FFBS) with the metro. The results showed that SBBS were mainly used as feeder mode in downtown metro stations, while FFBS-metro integration was more dispersed at peripheral stations and covered wider time periods.

Nonlinear public transit accessibility effects on housing prices: Heterogeneity across price segments

Tanhua Jin et al.

Summary: This study investigates the complicated relationships between public transit accessibility and housing prices in Shanghai using gradient boosting regression trees. It finds that the impact of public transit accessibility on housing prices varies across different price segments, with high-priced houses benefiting more from proximity to the central business district and the systemwide metro accessibility.

Boosted Genetic Algorithm Using Machine Learning for Traffic Control Optimization

Tuo Mao et al.

Summary: Traffic control optimization is a challenging task, especially during severe incidents where typical methods may not be effective. By combining Machine Learning and Genetic Algorithms, a new methodology called BGA-ML is proposed to optimize traffic signal timings under non-recurrent traffic incidents, significantly reducing total travel time.

Exploring non-linear built environment effects on the integration of free-floating bike-share and urban rail transport: A quantile regression approach

Long Cheng et al.

Summary: This study examines the nonlinear effects of the built environment on the integration of free-floating bike-sharing (FFBS) with urban rail transport (URT). The results show that the effects of the built environment vary depending on the quantiles, with bicycle infrastructure having a more significant nonlinear effect. The findings inform the planning of seamless connections between bike-sharing and urban rail transport through dedicated and effective built environment interventions.

Interpretable data-driven demand modelling for on-demand transit services

Nael Alsaleh et al.

Summary: This study developed trip production and distribution models for ODT services using machine learning algorithms, revealing that land-use type and demographic characteristics are important factors. The results suggest that higher trip distribution levels are expected between areas with commercial/industrial land use and high-density residential land use.

Exploring the Patterns and Drivers of Urban Expansion in the Texas Triangle Megaregion

Jiani Guo et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the urban expansion patterns in the Texas Triangle megaregion, revealing a decreasing trend in urban expansion, differences in expansion patterns between metropolitan and non-metropolitan areas, increasing development compactness and intensity, and the significant role of population and economic growth as well as highway density in driving urban expansion. The changing trend in urban expansion is attributed to pro-sustainability initiatives by anchor cities and metropolitan planning agencies in the Texas Triangle.

The geography of warehouses in the Sao Paulo Metropolitan Region and contributing factors to this spatial distribution

Leonardo Guerin et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the relocation of warehouses in the Sa?o Paulo Metropolitan Region and identified potential factors attracting warehouses to their locations. Results showed a small logistics sprawl between 2010 and 2017, with key factors influencing relocation decisions being low land costs, lower taxes, and well-served infrastructure.
