rGO decorated ZnO/CdO heterojunction as a photoanode for photoelectrochemical water splitting

Lixia Sun et al.

Summary: A ternary photoanode of ZnO/CdO heterojunction decorated with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was fabricated by a simple and effective electrochemical deposition and thermal decomposition method. The photoanode demonstrated improved visible light absorption range and photocurrent density compared to pure ZnO and ZnO/CdO photoanodes. The enhancement is attributed to the architecture of semiconductor heterojunctions and the decoration of rGO nanosheets.

Auto combustion synthesis and characterization of Co doped ZnO nanoparticles with boosted photocatalytic performance

Khadijah S. Al-Namshah et al.

Summary: In this study, pure ZnO and Co doped ZnO nanoparticles were successfully synthesized using flash combustion synthesis technique, and their properties were analyzed using various characterization techniques. The results showed that the Co doping enhanced the photocatalytic activity and affected the band gap and absorption spectrum of ZnO. The best performing sample was found to be 5 wt% Co doped ZnO with a rate constant 2.6 times higher than that of bare ZnO in the decolourization reaction.

Structure and Photocatalytic Activity of Copper and Carbon-Doped Metallic Zn Phase-Rich ZnO Oxide Films

Simona Tuckute et al.

Summary: ZnO is an important industrial metal oxide semiconductor. Reactive magnetron sputtering under Zn-rich conditions promotes the formation of intrinsic ZnO defects, resulting in the deposition of metallic Zn phase-rich ZnO films that exhibit superior photocatalytic efficiency compared to traditional ZnO oxide. This intentional formation of intrinsic ZnO defects can be considered advantageous self-doping. The addition of extrinsic dopants, such as copper or carbon, further modifies the microstructure of the films, with carbon having a positive effect on photocatalytic efficiency.

Growth and characterization of transparent vanadium doped zinc oxide thin films by means of a spray pyrolysis process for TCO application

Ali Sadek Kadari et al.

Summary: Vanadium-doped zinc oxide thin films were prepared by spray pyrolysis process to improve the electron mobility. The films were characterized to study their structural, morphological, chemical, optical, and mechanical properties. The results showed that the doped films had a polycrystalline hexagonal wurtzite structure, and the particle size increased with the increase of vanadium load. The distribution of zinc, oxygen, and vanadium elements was found to be constant throughout the film thickness.

Investigation of photocatalytic properties based on Fe and Ce Co-doped ZnO via hydrothermal method and first principles

Nan Qing Yang et al.

Summary: The co-doping of Fe and Ce in ZnO showed enhanced photocatalytic performance for the degradation of organic pollutants, with an optimal doping concentration leading to the best results, although higher doping concentrations led to a decrease in performance. Fe and Ce doping altered the band structure of ZnO, reducing the band gap and introducing shallow donor levels that inhibited carrier recombination and improved photocatalytic efficiency.
