An Alternative Digital Image Correlation-Based Experimental Approach to Estimate Fracture Parameters in Fibrous Soft Materials

Joao Filho et al.

Summary: A novel methodology based on Digital Image Correlation (DIC) method is proposed for crack tip detection of fibrous soft composites. The methodology was tested using a unidirectional composite with different fiber orientations and accurate estimation of fracture parameters was achieved. The DIC-based crack tip detection method was validated and proved to be replicable, precise, and robust.

iCorrVision-3D: An integrated python-based open-source Digital Image Correlation Software for in-plane and out-of-plane measurements (Part 2)

Joao Filho et al.

Summary: This work presents iCorrVision-3D, an out-of-the-box python-based open-source 3D Digital Image Correlation (3DDIC) software for full-field measurements. It includes image acquisition, calibration, correlation, and post-processing modules, providing users with a complete integrated 3D-DIC system. The software allows users to easily control important DIC setting parameters via an intuitive graphical interface and can be used in various engineering applications with robust and accurate results.

Development of a test method to investigate mode II fracture and dissection of arteries

Brian FitzGibbon et al.

Summary: The study introduces a bespoke experimental technique to generate and characterise mode II crack initiation and propagation in arterial tissue. The developed method, shear fracture ring test (SFRT), effectively produces pure mode II fracture in arteries, with significantly higher fracture strength compared to mode I. The findings have important implications for understanding the biomechanical conditions underlying aortic dissection.
