Overexpression of OsHAK5 potassium transporter enhances virus resistance in rice (Oryza sativa)

Summary: Intracellular potassium (K+) is essential for plant survival under different stresses. This study reveals the role of the OsHAK5 protein in regulating rice resistance to the viral disease RGSV. The overexpression of OsHAK5 enhances resistance to RGSV infection by increasing reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation. The findings suggest the crucial role of OsHAK5 in host resistance to virus infection.

Utilization of next-generation sequencing has revealed a significant number of viruses in forest trees and urban parks. In this study, a novel Emaravirus was identified and named MaMaV from sycamore maple showing leaf mottle symptoms, representing a new addition to the Emaravirus genus.

Characterization of a Novel Emaravirus Affecting Ash Species (Fraxinus spp.) in Europe

This is the first confirmation of an emaravirus affecting ash tree species with shoestring symptoms of leaves in Europe.
