Molecular identification and characterization of phytobeneficial osmotolerant endophytic bacteria inhabiting root nodules of the Saharan tree Vachellia tortilis subsp. raddiana

Mohamed Hnini et al.

Summary: Non-symbiotic endophytic bacteria were isolated and studied from nodules of Vachellia tortilis subsp. raddiana, a leguminous tree adapted to the harsh arid climate of Southern Morocco. The analysis revealed two main genera, Pseudomonas and Bacillus. These bacteria exhibited variations in response to salt and water stresses, and showed plant growth-promoting activities, such as nutrient solubilization, nitrogen fixation, and production of plant hormones and enzymes. Selected strains exhibited positive impacts on plant growth parameters and can be used as bio-inoculants in reforestation programs in arid areas threatened by desertification.

Taxonomy of Rhizobiaceae revisited: proposal. of a new framework for genus delimitation

Nemanja Kuzmanovic et al.

Summary: The alphaproteobacterial family Rhizobiaceae is highly diverse, but some historically named genera show inconsistent distribution and phylogenetic breadth. The genus Rhizobium is notorious for being highly paraphyletic, and many genera in Rhizobiaceae lack distinctive traits. In this study, a common framework for genus delimitation within the family Rhizobiaceae is proposed, based on genomic relatedness and phylogenetic relationships. The study also proposes reclassifying certain species into new genera and argues for the separation of Ensifer and Sinorhizobium based on genomic and phenotypic data.
