Normothermic Machine Perfusion for Declined Livers: A Strategy to Rescue Marginal Livers for Transplantation

Franklin C. Olumba et al.

Summary: The interim results of the RESTORE trial show that declined livers can be reclaimed through the use of normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) technology. These livers are safe for transplantation, enabling lower MELD patients to receive lifesaving grafts while reducing organ waste.

External Validation of the RETREAT Score for Prediction of Hepatocellular Carcinoma Recurrence after Liver Transplantation

Maria C. van Hooff et al.

Summary: This study aimed to validate the performance of the RETREAT score in a European population. The results showed that higher RETREAT scores were associated with higher HCC recurrence rates. Patients within the Milan criteria and with low RETREAT scores had very low HCC recurrence rates.

Locoregional therapies in the era of molecular and immune treatments for hepatocellular carcinoma

Josep M. Llovet et al.

Summary: Locoregional therapies, including local ablation and transarterial chemoembolization, play a crucial role in the management of hepatocellular carcinoma. Recent studies have shown potential benefits of combining these local therapies with systemic treatments, such as molecular therapies, to enhance therapeutic effects.
