Multi-objective optimization for laser cladding refractory MoNbTiZr high-entropy alloy coating on Ti6Al4V

Qiang Gao et al.

Summary: A novel MoNbTiZr refractory high-entropy alloy coating was synthesized on Ti6Al4V surfaces using laser cladding technique. Mathematical models between laser processing parameters (laser power, powder feeding rate, scanning speed) and dilution, porosity, and microhardness were developed and validated. The results showed that dilution and porosity were negatively correlated due to the difference in melting point between the substrate and the coating. Multi-objective optimization identified the optimal processing parameters for dilution, porosity, and microhardness.

Influence of process parameters on surface properties and corrosion resistasnce of Inconel 625 coating prepared by laser cladding

Longlong Guo et al.

Summary: In order to achieve good corrosion resistance and cost savings, laser cladding was used to prepare Inconel 625 coatings with different process parameters using Inconel 625 powder as the feed material. The study analyzed the effects of powder feed rate (Vp), scan rate (Vs), and laser power (P) on the surface waviness (Wa) and effective height (he) of the cladding. The results showed that Wa and he increased with the increase of Vp, while decreased with the increase of Vs. Additionally, P had a positive influence on he, but when P exceeded 1.0 kW, it led to an increase in Wa. The microstructure analysis revealed that the cladding was predominantly composed of γ-Ni matrix and laves phase. The process parameters also affected the grain size and laves phase. Among the tested coatings, No.3 exhibited the best corrosion resistance, with the highest Ecorr, lowest Icorr, and largest Epit. It was concluded that larger grain size and fewer laves phases benefited the corrosion resistance.

A comparative study on microstructure, nanomechanical and corrosion behaviors of AlCoCuFeNi high entropy alloys fabricated by selective laser melting and laser metal deposition

Yaojia Ren et al.

Summary: This study investigated the microstructure, nanomechanics, and corrosion behavior of AlCoCuFeNi high entropy alloys fabricated by selective laser melting and laser metal deposition. The results showed significant differences between the SLM-processed and LMD-processed specimens in terms of microstructure, nanomechanics, and corrosion behavior. The LMD-processed specimens exhibited a coarser grain structure, stronger texture, lower hardness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, but higher creep resistance and reduced Young's modulus compared to the SLM-processed specimens. Both types of specimens experienced hot cracks.

Enhanced wear and corrosion resistances of AlCoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy coatings via high-speed laser cladding

Zhenzeng Chong et al.

Summary: In this study, an AlCoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy (HEA) coating was prepared on the surface of AISI 1045 steel by high-speed laser cladding (HLC). The results showed that the coating had a metallurgical bond and even element distribution. Compared to conventional laser cladding (CLC), HLC had higher cladding efficiency and improved processing quality, with lower surface roughness and dilution ratio. Moreover, HLC technology effectively improved the hardness, reduced the friction coefficient, decreased the wear weight loss, and enhanced the corrosion resistance of the coatings.

Liufei Huang et al.

Summary: AlxCoCrFeNi high entropy alloys were successfully synthesized by laser melting deposition, with the microstructure transforming from a single FCC phase to a mixture of FCC + BCC phases as the Al content increased. The addition of Al significantly improved the yield strength and tensile strength while reducing plasticity in tension.

Process parameter optimization and EBSD analysis of Ni60A-25% WC laser cladding

Sha Wu et al.

Summary: In this research work, the preset powder feeding laser cladding process of Ni60A-25% tungsten carbide powder was optimized using response surface methodology. The microhardness of the laser cladding layer was significantly increased compared with the substrate, and the mathematical models for the dilution and unit effective area were successfully validated. The EBSD analysis showed a pronounced meritocratic orientation in the laser cladding layer.

Koyilada Benarji et al.

Summary: Laser-assisted metal deposition (L-MD) is a type of direct energy deposition (DED) process that produces components with excellent metallurgical properties and full density. Finite element analysis is used to understand the thermal behavior that governs microstructure characteristics. Input parameters such as scanning rate, powder feeding rate, and laser power have significant effects on clad height and width, as well as solidification rate and temperature gradient.
