Nanosecond pulsed laser-assisted modified copper surface structure: Enhanced surface microhardness and microbial corrosion resistance

Boxin Wei et al.

Summary: This study investigates the microstructural evolution and corrosion behavior of copper (Cu) under the presence of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) using nanosecond pulsed laser processing (LP). The results show that LP can enhance the corrosion resistance of Cu, primarily due to the combined influences of compressive residual stress and work hardening on the surface. The overlap percentage also plays a key role in improving corrosion resistance, with optimal performance achieved at 50% overlap.

Characterization and performance evaluation of Cu-based/TiO2 nano composites

D. Saber et al.

Summary: The study explored the effects of TiO2 nanoparticles at different weight percentages on the hardness and corrosion behavior of copper nanocomposites, finding that the addition of TiO2 nanoparticles increased the hardness of pure copper. However, as the amount of TiO2 nanoparticles increased, the corrosion resistance of Cu nanocomposites decreased. Test specimens exhibited lower corrosion current density in 3.5wt% NaCl solution compared to other test solutions.
