Computational Simulations Using Time-Dependent Ginzburg-Landau Theory for Nb-Ti-Like Microstructures

C. W. W. Haddon et al.

Summary: Simulations based on time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau theory were used to determine the critical current for a model system representing a Nb-Ti-like pinning landscape. The system consisted of ellipsoids of normal metal randomly distributed throughout the superconducting bulk, representing the strong pinning centers in Nb-Ti alloys. The results showed that the optimized material in the model system occurred at 32% volume fraction of precipitates, while in real materials the optimum occurred at 25% volume fraction. This suggests that the broad features of Nb-Ti-like systems are captured in the model, but the details of the precipitate pinning mechanism are not fully included.

Summary: A meso-concrete model was established in this paper to investigate the influence of elastic modulus on concrete properties, revealing that aggregate shape, diameter, and interfacial initial imperfection play a significant role in concrete behavior. A new method of randomly assigning mortar elements in different elastic modulus sets was proposed to consider non-uniformity, ultimately promoting feasibility from ideal to real models. It was recommended to use a safety coefficient of 0.85 to account for the adverse effects of mortar elastic modulus randomness.

Analysis of the strain dependence of the superconducting critical properties of single-crystal and polycrystalline Nb3Sn

He Ding et al.

Summary: This article presents a 3D simulation based on Voronoi tessellation to assess the strain dependence of superconducting critical properties of inhomogeneous polycrystalline Nb3Sn. The elastic properties of polycrystalline Nb3Sn are mainly affected by environmental temperature, phase transition and grain orientation. The superconducting critical temperature of polycrystalline Nb3Sn is more sensitive to strain compared to ideal single-crystal Nb3Sn, due to the non-uniformity of the strain field in the polycrystal.
