Field quality and surface resistance studies of a superconducting REBa2Cu3O 7-x -Cu hybrid coating for the FCC beam screen

G. T. Telles et al.

Summary: In order to maintain beam stability in the future circular collider study, a RE(=Y, Gd, Eu)Ba2Cu3O7-x high-temperature superconductor was proposed as a low-surface impedance coating for the beam screen. However, persistent currents in the superconductor can degrade magnetic field homogeneity, endangering beam trajectory stability. To counteract this, a highly conductive hybrid coating made of Cu and REBa2Cu3O7-x was explored. This hybrid coating reduces surface impedance compared to pure copper, while maintaining high magnetic field quality.

Evaluation of the nonlinear surface resistance of REBCO coated conductors for their use in the FCC-hh beam screen

P. Krkotic et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the feasibility of using high-temperature superconductors for beam screens in future circular colliders. The results show that the surface resistance of REBCO coated conductors is more affected by RF magnetic fields, but still outperforms copper. Additionally, the study demonstrates the possibility of reducing the surface resistance of the vacuum chamber by changing the magnetic field intensity and frequency.

Design Concept for a Future Super Proton-Proton Collider

Jingyu Tang

Summary: Following the discovery of the Higgs boson, the international high-energy community is considering and studying new large colliders, with the CEPC-SPPC project in China being one of the important research initiatives. Consisting of two stages, the project focuses on studying Higgs physics in the first stage and aims to become an energy frontier collider beyond the LHC in the second stage. This article presents the design concept of the SPPC and discusses key accelerator physics problems and technical issues.

Summary: Laser Ablation Surface Engineering (LASE) has been shown to effectively produce surfaces with Secondary Electron Yields (SEY) < 1, while maintaining a relatively low RF surface resistance. The study demonstrates a considerable reduction in electron stimulated desorption (ESD) for copper samples treated with LASE.
