Alternate In-Brace and Out-of-Brace Radiographs Are Recommended to Assess Brace Fitting and Curve Progression With Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis Follow-Up

Sachiko Kawasaki et al.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study aimed to determine the prevalence of missed curve progression in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) undergoing brace treatment with only in-brace follow-up radiographs, and provided recommendations on when in-brace and out-of-brace radiographs should be obtained during follow-up. The study found that patients may develop curve progression despite good correction on in-brace radiographs, and those with higher flexibility and suboptimal brace fitting are at higher risk. Therefore, in-brace and out-of-brace radiographs should be taken alternately for brace treatment follow-up.

Post-Maturity Progression in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis Curves of 40° to 50°

Sze-Hon Yu et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to determine the progression of curves of 40 degrees to 50 degrees following skeletal maturity. The study found that although most of the patients showed progression, the rate of progression was slow, suggesting that yearly observation was a reasonable management approach. Apical wedging and coronal imbalance could potentially serve as indicators for closer monitoring and early spinal fusion in these patients.

Three-dimensional alignment of the upper extremity in the standing neutral position in healthy subjects

Yuki Yoshida et al.

Summary: This study assessed the normal alignment and three-dimensional angular rotations of the upper extremities in the standing neutral position using an upright CT scanner. The results provide important insights for the functional evaluation of upper extremity alignment.

Patterns of coronal and sagittal deformities in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis

Trixie Mak et al.

Summary: This study examined the association between coronal and sagittal malalignment in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), finding that pelvic parameters, especially pelvic incidence, were more closely related to sagittal profile than coronal curve patterns. Additionally, it was discovered that more severe coronal curves had a greater impact on patient's quality of life outcomes.

What determines immediate postoperative coronal balance and delayed global coronal balance after anterior spinal fusion for Lenke 5C curves?

Abhishek Mannem et al.

Summary: Factors such as preoperative UIV tilt and immediate postoperative RSH difference are associated with achieving global coronal balance immediately after anterior spinal fusion for Lenke 5C curves. Most patients eventually attain coronal balance despite early imbalance.
