Identification of mare milk adulteration with cow milk by liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry based on proteomics and metabolomics approaches

Zhongyuan Ji et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the adulteration of mare milk with cow milk using proteomics and metabolomics. It found that certain proteins and metabolites increased with a higher percentage of cow milk admixture, which can be used to distinguish mare milk adulterated with cow milk at levels as low as 1%.

Rapid detection of adulteration of goat milk and goat infant formulas using near-infrared spectroscopy fingerprints

Yongji He et al.

Summary: This study aimed to establish NIRS fingerprints to detect adulteration in goat milk and goat infant formulas, and successfully differentiate them from bovine milk products. The NIRS fingerprint combined with PCA method can achieve quick and accurate quality control in identifying goat milk, goat infant formulas, and their adulteration.

A novel and low-cost smartphone integrated paper-based sensor for measuring starch adulteration in milk

Rishi Ram et al.

Summary: Milk adulteration poses a life-threatening risk, and detecting this issue is crucial for food safety. However, current detection techniques are often expensive and time-consuming. In this study, a low-cost and simple paper-based microfluidic device was developed to accurately detect starch concentration in milk. The results showed excellent correlation between the device measurements and those obtained from a spectrophotometer, indicating the potential of this novel and cost-effective device for detecting starch adulteration in milk in resource-constrained settings.
