Radiation-induced degradation of doxazosin: Role of reactive species, toxicity, mineralization and degradation pathways

Ivana Tartaro Bujak et al.

Summary: This study reports the radiation-induced degradation of DOX in aqueous solution. The removal of 10 mg L-1 DOX reached almost 100 % at irradiation doses of 200 Gy. The effects of pH, various inorganic ions and water matrix on DOX degradation were also studied. Toxicity tests showed higher toxicity of samples irradiated at 500 Gy.

Fluorescent pH sensors based on BODIPY structure sensitive in acidic media

Mladena Glavas et al.

Summary: Two BODIPY phenolic esters with different spectral properties were synthesized and their stability under acid-catalyzed hydrolysis and esterase enzymatic conditions was demonstrated. The introduction of methyl groups on the BODIPY core resulted in higher fluorescence quantum yields. Solvents had minimal effect on the spectral properties, with solvent polarizability having a more significant impact than solvent polarity. Both BODIPY dyes showed pH responsive fluorescence in aqueous solution, making them suitable for intracellular pH measurements. The feasibility of the quenching mechanism in the protonated form of one of the dyes was confirmed through electrochemical measurements and density functional theory computations. The potential of these dyes as electron donors provides new opportunities for the design of fluorescent sensors. Confocal fluorescence microscopy confirmed the applicability of these dyes for intracellular measurements in H460 human cancer cells.

Effect of protonation on the photophysical properties of 4-substituted and 4,7-disubstituted quinazoline push-pull chromophores

Rodrigo Plaza-Pedroche et al.

Summary: White-light emission can be achieved by combining neutral and protonated forms of push-pull 4-substituted and 4,7-disubstituted quinazolines in the appropriate ratio. These compounds, prepared by straightforward Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions, demonstrate remarkable emission solvatochromism and the ability to exhibit multicolor photoluminescence, including white light, through controlled protonation of the electron-deficient quinazoline ring.

Synthesis and Structure-Photophysics Evaluation of 2-N-Amino-quinazolines: Small Molecule Fluorophores for Solution and Solid State

Miho Motoyama et al.

Summary: The study focused on the preparation of 2-N-aminoquinazolines through consecutive SNAr functionalization, showing positive solvatochromism and high quantum yields in both solution and solid state. It was also found that increased electron donor strength of the 2-amino substituent resulted in red-shift of intramolecular charge transfer band and significant red-shift in photoluminescence emission maxima. Theoretical analysis attributed the ICT properties to an excitation to Rydberg-MO in the SAC-CI method, which could be interpreted as n-pi* excitation.

Kinetics of chain reaction driven by proton-coupled electron transfer: α-hydroxyethyl radical and bromoacetate in buffered aqueous solutions

Igor Sviben et al.

Summary: The study found that the rate constants of reactions significantly increased in the presence of buffers, mainly due to the multi-step reactions initiated by proton-coupled electron transfer. Buffer anions promoted proton transfer but also slowed down propagation by forming strong hydrogen bonds with the carboxymethyl radical.
