Unveiling the Selenization Reaction Mechanisms in Ambient Air-Processed Highly Efficient Kesterite Solar Cells

Zixuan Yu et al.

Summary: By using a combination of strategies involving SnS and Sn or SnSe or SnSe2, the excessive S and related defects in the selenization process are solved, and the pathway for the formation of CZTSSe is clarified. Adding SnSe2 effectively promotes grain fusion and improves crystalline quality, optimizing the band bending at grain boundaries and suppressing interface recombination. As a result, the open-circuit voltage, fill factor, and short-circuit current density are increased, leading to a state-of-the-art kesterite device with 12.89% efficiency. The unveiled reaction mechanisms have guiding significance for further improving selenization atmosphere and efficiency of CZTSSe solar cells.

Influence mechanism of Cu+/(Cu++Cu2+) ratio in Cu-Zn-Sn-S precursor solution on performance of Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 solar cells

Ting Wang et al.

Summary: Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)(4) films with different ratios were fabricated and used in CZTSSe solar cells. The crystal quality and lattice constants of the films increased with the ratio, while the amount of Zn(S,Se) decreased, resulting in an improvement in the solar cell conversion efficiency.

Efficiency enhancement of Cu2ZnSn(S, Se)4 solar cells by addition a CuSe intermediate layer between Cu2ZnSn(S, Se)4 and Mo electrode

JiaYong Zhang et al.

Summary: A CuSe intermediate layer is added between CZTSSe and Mo electrode to reduce carrier recombination and improve power conversion efficiency. By optimizing the thickness of CuSe intermediate layer, the power conversion efficiency is increased from 7.52% to 10.09%. The improvement in power conversion efficiency is mainly attributed to the enhancement in filling factor, short-circuit current density, and open-circuit voltage.

Performance Degradation in Solution-Processed Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 Solar Cells Based on Different Oxidation States of Copper Salts

Jiayong Zhang et al.

Summary: This study compares the performance stability of two types of CZTSSe solar cells and finds that the cell prepared with Cu+ salts has better initial performance but worse stability. The calculation of contribution percentages reveals that the performance decrease in Cu2+-cell is primarily caused by JL, Rs, Rsh, and (A, J0), while the decrease in Cu+-cell is mainly attributed to a significant decrease in Rsh and a sharp increase in J0.
