Black zirconia composites with enhanced thermal, optical and mechanical performance for solar energy applications

Dina H. A. Besisa et al.

Summary: This work discusses the development of new black zirconia composites for volumetric solar receivers through low cost processing. By adding Fe2O3 and MnO2 to zirconia, the composites are optimized for solar absorption. The results show that composites with higher Fe2O3 content have improved thermal and solar efficiencies, with the highest absorbance in UV, visible, and near IR regions achieved by composites with 30 wt% Fe2O3.
