Substitution and oxygen vacancy double defects on Bi2MoO6 induced efficient conversion of CO2 and highly selective production of CH4

Jiaqi Qiu et al.

Summary: A series of novel iodine substitution and oxygen vacancy double defects Bi2MoO6 nanosheets were reported for enhanced photocatalytic reduction of CO2 under full solar spectrum illumination, showing superior CO2 photocatalytic activity and CH4 selectivity. Bi2MoO6-I2 with a molar ratio of I to Mo at 0.13 exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity, with CO yield 2.0 times that of pure Bi2MoO6, CH4 yield 12.2 times that of pure Bi2MoO6, and CH4 selectivity reaching 5.3 times that of pure Bi2MoO6. The enhancement in CO2 conversion and CH4 selectivity was attributed to factors such as larger specific surface areas, suitable band structure, insertion of impurity energy levels, double defects, and optimized formation energy of reaction intermediates.

Visible-light promoted hydrogen production by diesel soot derived onion like carbon nanoparticles

Ruchi Aggarwal et al.

Summary: Visible-light-driven photocatalytic water splitting is a promising approach for hydrogen generation. Onion-like carbon nano particles (OCNPs) isolated from diesel engine exhaust soot have shown strong capability for visible-light promoted hydrogen evolution. The high hydrogen evolution rate of OCNPs under visible light irradiation, comparable with literature values without dopants or co-catalysts, is attributed to the presence of optically active centers and a high sp(3)/sp(2) interface on the OCNPs surface, promoting the process of visible-light assisted photocatalytic water splitting. These waste derived OCNPs can serve as high-performance photocatalytic materials for visible light-to-hydrogen production, contributing to the goal of achieving clean energy.

B, N Co-Doping Sequence: An Efficient Electronic Modulation of the Pd/MXene Interface with Enhanced Electrocatalytic Properties for Ethanol Electrooxidation

Zhangxin Chen et al.

Summary: Improving the electrocatalytic properties of supported metals by regulating the surface electronic structure is a hot topic in electrocatalysis. In this study, two novel catalysts, Pd/B-N-Ti3C2 and Pd/N-B-Ti3C2, were used to explore the effect of B and N co-doping sequence on the surface electronic structure of metals and the electrocatalytic properties of ethanol oxidation reaction. The results showed that the Pd/B-N-Ti3C2 catalyst outperformed the Pd/N-B-Ti3C2 catalyst in terms of electrochemical surface area, maximum peak current density, and antitoxicity. The different properties of the catalysts can be attributed to the various doping species of B and N, which significantly affect the surface electronic structure and size distribution of supported metal Pd. Density functional theory calculations further revealed that B-doped species can provide reaction sites, facilitating the progress of the ethanol oxidation reaction along a favorable pathway.
