A mechanical model for soil-rectangular tank interaction effects under seismic loading

Shamsedin Hashemi et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the dynamic behavior of concrete rectangular tanks subjected to motions caused by an earthquake considering the effects of soil-structure-fluid interaction. By developing an analytical mechanical model, the soil-structure-fluid interaction effect can be taken into account in the seismic analysis in a fast and practical manner.

Impact of earthquake direction and liquid sloshing on column supported tank

Junwen Zhou et al.

Summary: The seismic responses of column supported tanks, including anchored and resilient ones, were studied using the finite element method with ANSYS. The effects of earthquakes from different directions and liquid sloshing on the tanks were discussed. It was found that earthquakes at 0 degrees amplified seismic responses in most cases, with the resilient tank showing better performance in seismic situations than the anchored tank.

Sloshing dynamics in cylindrical tank with porous layer under harmonic and seismic excitations

Mi-An Xue et al.

Summary: The research shows that the damping effect of the porous material layer inside the cylindrical tank is more significant compared to the ring baffle. The porous material layer acts not only as a pressure absorber, but also as an energy dissipator.
