All-round improvement in DCT-based blind image watermarking with visual enhancement via denoising autoencoder

Hwai-Tsu Hu et al.

Summary: Discrete cosine transform (DCT)-based watermarking has achieved success in copyright protection of digital images. This study proposes a watermarking scheme that utilizes the orthonormal expansion properties of DCT to improve computational efficiency and efficacy. By reformulating relative modulation and adapting embedding strength based on image entropy, the proposed scheme achieves superior robustness and imperceptibility. The grey wolf optimizer is used to find an optimal balance between robustness and imperceptibility. Additionally, a denoising autoencoder (DAE) is employed to enhance the comprehensibility of character-style watermarks, resulting in improved visual recognition of the recovered watermark.

A novel dimensionality reduction approach for ECG signal via convolutional denoising autoencoder with LSTM

Evangelin Dasan et al.

Summary: In this paper, a novel edge-based approach is proposed by combining convolutional denoising autoencoder (CDAE) and long short-term memory (LSTM) for ECG signal compression. By adding a single-layer LSTM network to the end of the CDAE encoder section, the number of trainable parameters is reduced, reducing computation time. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves a higher compression ratio and reconstruction quality score, and is lightweight compared to baseline methods in terms of computation cost.

Davood Karimi et al.

Summary: This study critically evaluates the role of transfer learning in training fully convolutional networks for medical image segmentation. It highlights the importance of task and data dependency in improving segmentation accuracy, with observations on limited changes in convolutional filters during training and the potential for accurate FCNs by freezing the encoder section at random values. Additionally, the research challenges the common belief that the encoder section needs to learn data/task-specific representations, offering new insights and alternative training methods for FCNs.
