Dynamic semiconductor-electrolyte interface for sustainable solar water splitting over 600 hours under neutral conditions

Rui-Ting Gao et al.

Summary: Here we demonstrate a strategy to enhance the photoelectrochemical performance of the BiVO4 photoanode in neutral electrolyte by in situ forming a NiB layer through the addition of nickel and borate species. The NiB/BiVO4 photoanode shows a high photocurrent density of 6.0 mA cm-2 at 1.23 VRHE and a photostability over 600 hours. The addition of Ni2+ inhibits the dissolution of NiB and improves the charge transfer, while borate species act as a promoter for catalyst activity. The synergy effect of both species suppresses charge recombination and photocorrosion of BiVO4.

Magnetic field assisted electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction of nickel-based materials

Yuanyuan Zhang et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the magnetoresistance effect caused by spin electron scattering dominates the apparent electrocatalytic activity in the magnetic field-assisted oxygen evolution reaction process. Additionally, the magnetic field-induced spin-polarized kinetics are more distinct when the first electron transfer step is the rate-determining step of the OER, especially for nickel. These findings provide insights into the role of magnetic effects in electrochemical reactions and may aid in the rational design of magnetic effect catalysts.

Improved omnidirectional polarisation-insensitive optical absorption and photoelectrochemical water splitting using aperiodic and tapered slanted, kinked and straight silicon nanowires

Adhila T. K. et al.

Summary: The experimental results demonstrate that slanted, kinked, and straight silicon nanowire arrays create a broadband omnidirectional light-harvesting structure, with slanted and kinked nanowires having better light trapping capabilities than straight ones. By manipulating the geometrical parameters, the light absorption in these nanowires can be enhanced. P-type SiNWs exhibit less reflection than n-type SiNWs, making them promising materials for photoelectrochemical water splitting applications.
