A pH-universal ORR catalyst with atomic Fe-heteroatom (N, S) sites for high-performance Zn-air batteries

Le Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a self-sacrificing post-synthetic strategy was used to synthesize highly loaded Fe-isolated single atoms anchored on a hierarchical porous N,S co-doped carbon matrix (Fe-SAs/S,N-C/rGO). The optimized Fe-SAs/S,N-C/rGO exhibited excellent oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity in alkaline, acidic, and neutral media, comparable to commercial Pt/C. The homemade liquid Zn-air battery with Fe-SAs/S,N-C/rGO as the cathode catalyst showed higher performance than the device with commercial Pt/C+RuO2.

Isolated Electron Trap-Induced Charge Accumulation for Efficient Photocatalytic Hydrogen Production

Wenhuan Huang et al.

Summary: The solar-driven evolution of hydrogen from water using particulate photocatalysts is a promising method for achieving a stable supply of renewable energy. However, the efficiency of photocatalytic water splitting is low due to sluggish electron-hole pair separation kinetics. In this study, highly oxidized Mo species incorporated into Cd0.5Zn0.5S nanorods exhibit significantly enhanced photocatalytic efficiency through inhibited electron-hole recombination.

Summary: The preparation and understanding of single-atomic active sites with unique coordination structures in electrocatalysts for the CO2 reduction reaction remain challenging. In this study, the authors report a strategy of nitrogen source-assisted pyrolysis of an oxygen-abundant MOF precursor to prepare uniform, atomically-precise Fe sites. The obtained electrocatalyst exhibits high selectivity and durability, and the ratio of coordinating N and O around Fe plays an important role in regulating the catalytic activity and selectivity of CO2-to-CO conversion. This work provides an efficient strategy to boost the catalytic performances for the CO2 reduction reaction.
