A psychological view on the effectiveness of psychosocial interventions on positive airway pressure treatment adherence and sleep quality in patients with obstructive sleep apnea

M. Bertrand et al.

Summary: Positive airway pressure treatment (CPAP) is the gold standard for obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS), but poor adherence rates are mainly caused by its invasive nature and related stigma. Psychosocial interventions have been implemented to increase CPAP adherence with promising results. This review summarizes the available data on the effectiveness of psychosocial interventions in increasing CPAP adherence and improving sleep quality. However, more studies are needed to further explore the relationship between psychosocial variables and CPAP adherence.

Comparative efficacy of digital cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia: A systematic review and network meta-analysis

Faizul Hasan et al.

Summary: A network meta-analysis of digital cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia in adults found that web-based CBTi combined with a therapist significantly improves sleep duration, sleep onset latency, wake after sleep onset, and sleep efficiency compared to usual care. The analysis suggests that this treatment is most likely to be ranked the highest among all treatments, indicating that it is the optimal intervention for improving sleep outcomes.

Factors Affecting Long-Term Compliance of CPAP Treatment-A Single Centre Experience

Agata Gabryelska et al.

Summary: This study investigated factors contributing to treatment failure and poor compliance in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea/hypopnoea syndrome (OSA) using continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment. Among the 400 patients analyzed, various reasons were identified for patients not starting or discontinuing CPAP treatment. Only mild OSA (AHI < 15) was strongly associated with long-term CPAP treatment failure.

Telemedicine compared to standard face-to-face care for continuous positive airway pressure treatment: real-world Australian experience

Christopher Kosky et al.

Summary: This study compared the effectiveness of telemedicine and in-person care in initiating continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment. The results showed that telemedicine was comparable to in-person care in terms of CPAP adherence and various other outcome measures, and the total healthcare costs of the telemedicine model were lower.
