Dynamic Programming Principle for Classical and Singular Stochastic Control with Discretionary Stopping

Tiziano De Angelis et al.

Summary: In this study, we prove the dynamic programming principle (DPP) in a class of problems involving an agent controlling d-dimensional diffusive dynamics with both classical and singular controls. The agent is also able to terminate the optimization at a chosen time before a given maturity. We consider both bounded and unbounded cases of total available fuel for the singular control. We extend existing proofs and connect with more general versions of the DPP, while relaxing assumptions and including a discretionary stopping feature.

Multidimensional singular control and related Skorokhod problem: Sufficient conditions for the characterization of optimal controls

Jodi Dianetti et al.

Summary: This paper characterizes the optimal control for a class of singular stochastic control problems by framing it as the unique solution to a related Skorokhod reflection problem. The optimization problems involve minimizing a discounted cost over an infinite time horizon by influencing an Ito-diffusion process with bounded variation. The study considers multidimensional settings where the drift of the state equation and the costs are convex, and the volatility matrix can be constant or linear in the state. The results have implications for linear-quadratic models and provide insights into both degenerate and non-degenerate settings discussed in existing literature.

A change of variable formula with applications to multi-dimensional optimal stopping problems

Cheng Cai et al.

Summary: In this paper, we derive a change of variable formula for C1 functions U : R+ x Rm & RARR; R with explosive and non-integrable second order spatial derivatives near a surface b : R+xRm-1 & RARR; R that splits the state space into two sets C and D. Unlike previous works, we only require the monotonicity of b in each variable and obtain the same expression as the classical Ito's formula.

Singular Control of the Drift of a Brownian System

Salvatore Federico et al.

Summary: The problem involves adjusting the drift of a standard Brownian motion and a singular stochastic control problem, which is solved by combining techniques of viscosity theory and free boundary problems. A detailed description of the problem's value function and the geometry of the state space has been provided, with the state space divided into three regions by two monotone curves.
