Advanced pre-combustion CO2 capture by clathrate hydrate formation with water-to-gas molar ratio optimization

Kwangbum Kim et al.

Summary: Capturing CO2 from exhaust gases by forming clathrate hydrates has great potential due to its mild operating conditions, economic feasibility, and environmental friendliness. However, the slow CO2 uptake kinetics and separation efficiency have hindered the realization of hydrate-based CO2 capture. In this study, the effect of the water-to-gas molar ratio (W/G ratio) on pre-combustion capture using clathrate hydrates was investigated, along with the use of residual liquid water and limiting the concentration of tetrahydrofuran (THF) to improve separation efficiency. Through a comprehensive evaluation, the optimal condition was determined to be 3 mol% THF + high W/G ratio. These findings emphasize the importance of considering the W/G ratio and its combined effects with other parameters for advanced pre-combustion capture using clathrate hydrates towards carbon neutrality.

Hydrate Phase Equilibria of Ternary Gas Mixtures with Tetrabutylammonium Bromide and Cyclopentane

Xiaoya Zang et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the effect of TBAB and CP as additives in promoting the hydrate formation of multicomponent gas mixtures. It was found that CP has a stronger promotion effect compared to TBAB, and the concentration of TBAB plays a significant role in the hydrate phase equilibrium of the system. This research provides theoretical support for HBGS technology.

Formation kinetics and microscopic characteristics of synthesized ternary gas mixture hydrates in TBAB aqueous solutions

Xiaoya Zang et al.

Summary: In this study, TBAB hydrates were synthesized and their carbon capture capacity from a ternary gas mixture of CH4/CO2/N-2 was investigated. The addition of TBAB increased the specific surface area of the hydrate crystals and transformed the hydrate structure. These findings are important for the development of hydrate gas separation technology.

Experimental investigation of hydrate formation kinetics and microscopic properties by a synthesized ternary gas mixture with combination additives

Xiaoya Zang et al.

Summary: This study examined the formation kinetics of ternary gas mixture hydrates using synthesized cyclopentane and sodium dodecyl sulfate as additives. The results showed that the use of mixed additives can promote hydrate formation and enhance gas separation under specific conditions. Increasing the concentration of sodium dodecyl sulfate can smoothen the hydrate crystal surface, resulting in more complete crystallization.

CO2 capture from biogas by biomass-based adsorbents: A review

Babak Aghel et al.

Summary: Biogas, containing methane, carbon dioxide, and other gases and water, is a significant renewable energy source. Upgrading biogas by removing CO2 using activated carbon adsorption is an effective method. Additionally, recycling agricultural waste and biomass into valuable materials is crucial for the economy and the environment.

High-efficiency separation of CO2 from CO2-CH4 gas mixtures via gas hydrates under static conditions

Zucheng Cheng et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the performance of SDS in the separation efficiency of simulated biogas. The experimental results showed that higher driving forces led to a significant increase in gas capture, dominated by the CH4 component. Hydrate growth mainly occurred in the liquid phase, and the separation factor was positively correlated with the induction time. Gas capture per unit volume of solution could be improved at higher gas-liquid ratios, while high-pressure failure behavior was observed. The defoamer had no significant effect on hydrate generation kinetics and separation efficiency.

Sanehiro Muromachi

Summary: This study investigates the CO2 capture properties of semiclathrate hydrates formed with different salts, showing that they almost exclusively capture CO2. Among the salts, TBPB exhibits superior gas capture performance, while TBAC captures the least amount of CO2.
