Application of low-cost MFe2O4 (M = Cu, Mn, and Zn) spinels in low-temperature selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxide

Suyan Ding et al.

Summary: The study focuses on developing a low-cost and low-toxicity catalyst for SCR of nitrogen oxide to replace high-cost and high-toxicity vanadium catalyst. It synthesized and applied low-cost spinel MFe2O4 (M = Cu, Mn, and Zn) in SCR, with MnFe2O4 showing the best activity and selectivity. Different cation substitutions in the spinels resulted in varying abilities for NH3 dehydrogenation and over oxidization, influencing the overall performance of the catalyst. The research supports the development of cleaner catalysts and suggests future efforts should concentrate on coating the catalysts on monolithic support.

Copper Single Atom-Triggered Niobia-Ceria Catalyst for Efficient Low-Temperature Reduction of Nitrogen Oxides

Shaohua Xie et al.

Summary: In this study, an efficient NbCuCe oxide catalyst for reducing NOx emissions in cold-start diesel engines is reported. The catalyst exhibits higher DeNO(x) activity below 200 degrees C compared to the Cu-CHA zeolite catalyst, along with superior sulfur resistance, faster response, and lower NH3 slip. Atomically dispersed Cu species facilitate strong interaction between Cu and the Nb/Ce base catalyst, leading to improved low-temperature redox properties and NH3 adsorption/activation. The developed NbCuCe catalyst shows promising potential for efficient DeNO(x) in cold-start diesel engines and can be combined with Cu-CHA for a broader temperature range of operation.

Improved alkali-tolerance of FeOx-WO3 catalyst for NO removal via in situ reserving FeOx active species

Siyuan Xu et al.

Summary: Improving the alkali tolerance of de-NOx catalysts for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO by NH3 remains a significant challenge. In this study, different template agents were used to protect iron active species, leading to the retention of NOx removal efficiency in the presence of potassium over FeOx-WO3 catalysts. The use of urea as a template agent showed superior de-NOx performance even after being poisoned by potassium. The binding of potassium with WO3 promoted by urea allowed the preservation of iron active species. Additionally, the aggregation of potassium species in the catalyst resulted in the exposure of more iron active sites and higher surface acidity and redox ability. Template regulation strategy offers a novel route for maintaining considerable NH3-SCR performance in the presence of alkali.

Boosting SO2-Tolerant Catalytic Reduction of NOx via Selective Adsorption and Activation of Reactants over Ce4+-SO42- Pair Sites

Xiangyu Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, SO2-tolerant selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx was achieved by sulfur doping and utilizing Ce4+-SO42- pair sites on CeO2 catalysts for the selective adsorption and activation of reactants. Sulfur doping induced charge-deficient neighboring Ce atoms, weakening the electronic interaction between CeO2 and SO2 as well as the oxidation capacity of CeO2 catalysts, resulting in the suppression of adsorption and oxidation of SO2. Meanwhile, it also alleviated the oxidation of NO, generating SCR reactive NO2/nitrite species accompanied by increased Bronsted acid sites over Ce4+-SO42- pair sites.
