Facile fabrication of NiO foam@Sn-doped In2O3 nanowire heterosturctures for highly sensitive ethylene glycol gas sensors at low temperatures

Xukun Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a p-type nickel oxide foam/n-type tin-doped indium oxide nanowires composite was fabricated for ethylene glycol gas sensing, which showed a unique response to 100 ppm ethylene glycol at a low temperature of 125 degrees C, along with fast response/recovery time. The excellent gas-sensitive performance of the composite can be attributed to the formation of p/n heterojunctions and the In and Sn doping of NiO during ITO growth. This fabrication method provides an effective strategy for building NiO-based heterostructures for high-performance gas sensors.

Ultrasensitive NO2 sensors based on Au/SnS2/SnO2 nanoflower-like heterojunctions at low temperature

Baoyu Huang et al.

Summary: The nanoflower-like Au/SnS2/SnO2 heterojunctions were synthesized by a combination process including solvothermal method and thermal oxidation. The as-synthesized heterojunctions showed much higher response to NO2 gas compared to the pristine SnS2 sensor, with a response of 22.3-8 ppm at 80 degrees C. The response and recovery rate of the sensor were also increased by 1-2 times. The sensing mechanisms were studied using density function theory (DFT) calculations, and the enhanced sensing performance was mainly attributed to the formation of Au/SnS2/SnO2 heterojunctions.

A critical review on relationship of CeO2-based photocatalyst towards mechanistic degradation of organic pollutant

A. A. Fauzi et al.

Summary: Nanostructured photocatalysts, particularly CeO2-based photocatalysts, have shown potential in addressing environmental challenges caused by population growth and urbanization. Modifications of CeO2, such as doping with metals and non-metals, have been explored to enhance photodegradation performance in wastewater treatment. Advanced heterojunction types like p-n heterojunction and Z-scheme show superior performance in charge carrier separation for efficient degradation of contaminants.

Electrospun Nb-doped CeO2 nanofibers for humidity independent acetone sensing

Wenjian Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, Nb-doped CeO2 nanofibers were prepared to create humidity-independent acetone gas sensors. The doped sensor exhibited excellent response, selectivity, repeatability, and long-term stability due to the presence of rich oxygen vacancies and enhanced acetone sensing performance. The appropriate Nb dopant was able to modulate the replacement ratio of H+ to the hydroxyl group, making it a promising sensing material for acetone in humid conditions.

Surface Functionalized Sensors for Humidity-Independent Gas Detection

Fengdong Qu et al.

Summary: This study presents a general strategy to overcome water-sensitivity issues in semiconducting metal oxides (SMOXs) by coating them with a hydrophobic polymer separated by a metal-organic framework (MOF) layer. Sensors using these nanoparticles show near-constant responses across a wide humidity range, with notable performance below 20% RH. Selectivity enhancement and humidity-independent sensitivity are achieved, leading to improved humidity-resistant gas sensors.

Pure and Pr-doped Ce4W9O33 with superior hydroxyl scavenging ability: humidity-independent oxide chemiresistors

Jun-Sik Kim et al.

Summary: In this study, Ce4W9O33 and Pr-doped Ce4W9O33 were reported as oxide semiconductor gas sensors with humidity-independent and highly selective sensitive detection capabilities. These sensors showed consistent gas sensing characteristics at 300 degrees C regardless of humidity changes and selective detection of ppm-level trimethylamine. The new design strategy for humidity-independent gas sensors involves phase-pure ternary or quaternary oxides with a decreased oxidation state of lanthanide components and acid-base interaction with the analyte gas.
