Guiding Transition Metal-Doped Hollow Cerium Tandem Nanozymes with Elaborately Regulated Multi-Enzymatic Activities for Intensive Chemodynamic Therapy

Shuming Dong et al.

Summary: The authors developed a hollow mesoporous Mn/Zr-co-doped CeO2 tandem nanozyme (PHMZCO-AT) with regulated multi-enzymatic activities to disrupt the H2O2 homeostasis, achieve intensive NCDT, and induce tumor apoptosis and death. The nanozyme catalyzes the conversion of superoxide anion into H2O2 in the tumor region and inhibits the off-target decomposition of H2O2. The elevated H2O2 is then converted into toxic hydroxyl radicals, leading to tumor cell death.

A Cerium Vanadate Nanozyme with Specific Superoxide Dismutase Activity Regulates Mitochondrial Function and ATP Synthesis in Neuronal Cells

Namrata Singh et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that CeVO4 nanozyme can substitute the function of SOD1 and SOD2 in neuronal cells even when the natural enzymes are down-regulated. The nanozyme prevents mitochondrial damage by regulating superoxide levels and restores physiological levels of anti-apoptotic proteins. Additionally, it effectively prevents mitochondrial depolarization and improves cellular ATP levels under oxidative stress.

Fabrication of hierarchically porous carbon networks for the electrochemical determination of superoxide anion released from living cells

Qianmei Gao et al.

Summary: The study successfully prepared hierarchically porous carbon networks (HPCN) through 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene (TMB)-induced self-assembly and carbonization strategy. The introduction of TMB led to changes in morphology, enriched pore structure, and improved defect degree in HPCN, promoting mass transfer and faster electron transfer efficiency. The non-enzymatic O-2(center dot-) electrochemical sensor fabricated with HPCN demonstrated high sensitivity and selectivity, enabling dynamic monitoring of O-2(center dot-) released from living cells and potential distinguishing between cancer and normal cells.
