Subsurface damage detection via noncontact laser based surface level strain sensing smart skin with carbon nanotubes

Ashish Pal et al.

Summary: Non-destructive measurements of surface strain are crucial in detecting early symptoms of hidden damage. This study investigates the effectiveness of a method called S4 in finding internal damage. By using single-wall carbon nanotubes as strain sensors, the S4 method accurately measures strain maps. The results show that S4 strain mapping is a reliable non-destructive evaluation method for detecting and visualizing subsurface damage.

SDFormer: A Novel Transformer Neural Network for Structural Damage Identification by Segmenting the Strain Field Map

Zhaoyang Li et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an efficient structural strain damage identification network SDFormer based on self-attention feature, which transforms the problem of structural strain damage identification into an image segmentation problem by introducing advanced image segmentation technology. SDFormer smoothly fuses low-level and high-level features and utilizes self-attention module to obtain damage feature information, achieving damage identification without complex damage index design. The effectiveness and accuracy of the model are verified through numerical experiments and compared with other models. Additionally, an anti-noise experiment demonstrates the good anti-noise and robustness of SDFormer.
