IMPROVING GAN LEARNING DYNAMICS FOR THYROID NODULE SEGMENTATION

Alisa Kunapinun et al.

Summary: This paper presents a new algorithm for segmenting thyroid nodules in ultrasound images, combining supervised semantic segmentation with unsupervised learning using GANs. To stabilize the GAN model training, the concept of closed-loop control of gain on the loss output of the discriminator is introduced. The performance of the new model named StableSeg GAN is better than other comparable models for thyroid nodule segmentation.

Ultrasound Image Classification of Thyroid Nodules Based on Deep Learning

Jingya Yang et al.

Summary: This study proposed a novel deep learning framework to accurately predict the benign and malignant nature of thyroid nodules. The model achieved good performance on ultrasound images for training and validation. Additionally, Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping (Grad-CAM) was used to highlight sensitive regions and analyze the shape features of thyroid nodules.

Comparative Performance of Deep Learning and Radiologists for the Diagnosis and Localization of Clinically Significant Prostate Cancer at MRI: A Systematic Review

Christian Roest et al.

Summary: Deep learning models show comparable performance to experts in diagnosing clinically significant prostate cancer on MRI, but currently have lower sensitivity compared to experienced radiologists. Further studies with larger datasets and validation on external data are needed.

Analysis of Malignant Thyroid Nodules That Do Not Meet ACR TI-RADS Criteria for Fine- Needle Aspiration

William D. Middleton et al.

Summary: The ACR TI-RADS system reduces the number of nodules requiring fine-needle aspiration. Most malignant nodules not recommended for biopsy would undergo ultrasound follow-up, and adjusting size thresholds could lead to more benign nodules undergoing follow-up while reducing missed malignant nodules over 1 cm.

Update on ACR TI-RADS: Successes, Challenges, and Future Directions, From the AJR Special Series on Radiology Reporting and Data Systems

Jenny K. Hoang et al.

Summary: The ACR TI-RADS is an ultrasound-based risk stratification system for thyroid nodules that has been shown to have higher specificity and reduce unnecessary biopsies compared to other systems. It also mitigates the risk of missing significant cancers through follow-up recommendations for nodules that do not meet biopsy criteria. Practices implementing ACR TI-RADS must engage their radiologists to address overdiagnosis and unnecessary surgeries by reducing unnecessary biopsies.
