Optical fiber hydrogen sensor based on self-assembled PDMS/Pd-WO3 microbottle resonator

Ya-nan Zhang et al.

Summary: In this paper, a new optical fiber hydrogen sensor based on a self-assembled microbottle resonator was proposed. The sensor was fabricated by coating a single-mode fiber with sensitive materials and forming a microbottle resonator with a tapered fiber. When exposed to hydrogen, the sensor's wavelength shifted due to the changes in the sensitive materials. The experimental results showed high sensitivity and resistance to external humidity and temperature disturbances.

Tapered fiber optic refractive index sensor using speckle pattern imaging

Fikret Ari et al.

Summary: A low-cost and compact refractive index (RI) sensor based on speckle pattern imaging has been proposed and demonstrated in this study. It has been proven that the speckle pattern images recorded with a CCD camera at the end of a tapered optical fiber (TOF) are highly sensitive to the RI of the medium being measured. The sensitivity of the sensor was investigated using the beam propagation method (BPM), and the experimental results matched well with the numerical results. The sensor, with a waist diameter reduced to 10 μm, exhibited high sensitivity to RI changes of the order of 10-4.

Microtaper leaky-mode spectrometer with picometer resolution

Qingqing Cen et al.

Summary: The wide application of optical spectroscopy calls for miniaturized spectrometers, but scalability, high-performance, low-cost, and small footprint are conflicting factors that limit practical application. This study proposes a compact spectrometer that satisfies all four advantages through the use of a fiber taper tip to generate complex leaky mode patterns within 1 mm length. The device provides effective operation in a wide spectral range and allows for hyperspectral imaging applications.

Recognizing the orbital angular momentum (OAM) of vortex beams from speckle patterns

Zhiyuan Wang et al.

Summary: This study designs a convolutional neural network (CNN) to accurately recognize two orthogonally polarized orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes from speckle patterns at the exit end of a multimode fiber (MMF). Even when the speckle patterns are cropped to only 1/64 of the original patterns, the recognition accuracy of the designed neural network remains higher than 98%.
