Design and optimization of a Goubau line for calibration of BPMs for particle accelerators

Jun He et al.

Summary: A Goubau line calibration system was built to evaluate the quality of beam position monitors (BPMs) for the High Energy Photon Source (HEPS). The system achieves good impedance matching using a tapered launcher and receiver, and guides surface wave transmission using a metal wire covered with a dielectric layer (Goubau line). The generated electromagnetic field is used to simulate the beam and calibrate the BPMs, with negligible interference observed according to test results.

Launching Surface Waves with Classical Antennas

Ergin Dinc et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the utilization of classical antennas as surface wave launchers, demonstrating the potential to improve received power in wireless communication links. Exploiting surface waves in future telecommunication networks may achieve substantially higher data rates in the last mile without the need for fiber-optic cable infrastructure, providing a cost-effective alternative for high data rate backhaul links required for 6G and beyond communication technologies.
