Methods for Spatiotemporal Analysis of Human Gait Based on Data from Depth Sensors

Jakub Wagner et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on comparing three different methods for spatiotemporal gait analysis based on depth sensor data. The results suggest that the viewing angle of the sensor and the subject's clothing can affect the uncertainty of gait parameter estimates. The method based on the trajectory of the feet provides the most information, while the method based on the trajectory of the centre of mass is the most robust.

Development of a Robust, Simple, and Affordable Human Gait Analysis System Using Bottom-Up Pose Estimation With a Smartphone Camera

Aditya Viswakumar et al.

Summary: This study proposes an OpenPose-based markerless gait analysis system (OMGait) that utilizes images from a smartphone camera and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to measure the kinematics of body joints. The system achieves high accuracy and performs better than other markerless systems in dark and bright light conditions as well as subjects with long robe clothing.

Comparison of Azure Kinect overground gait spatiotemporal parameters to marker based optical motion capture

Trent M. Guess et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that using Microsoft Azure Kinect with body tracking SDK is a feasible method for measuring overground walking spatiotemporal parameters. The comparison with the Vicon optical motion capture system shows strong agreement between the two instruments in most parameters. This indicates that Azure Kinect can provide clinically relevant measurement of walking spatiotemporal parameters, which is significant for improving clinical decision making.

YOLO-Pose: Enhancing YOLO for Multi Person Pose Estimation Using Object Keypoint Similarity Loss

Debapriya Maji et al.

Summary: We introduce YOLO-pose, a novel heatmap-free approach for joint detection and 2D multi-person pose estimation. Our approach outperforms existing methods by achieving state-of-the-art results on the COCO dataset without the need for post-processing steps like flip test or multi-scale testing. The proposed model is trained end-to-end and optimizes the evaluation metric itself, making it more effective and efficient.

Kinematic analysis of gait in an underwater treadmill using land-based Vicon T 40s motion capture cameras arranged externally

Shreyas Lakshmipuram Raghu et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the kinematics of lower limbs at different speeds while walking on an aquatic treadmill compared to walking on the same treadmill without water. The results showed significant influences of speed on knee and ankle angles, but no significant differences between dryland and water scenarios were found. The increased time requirement in water for the full gait cycle and the resistive effects suggest potential benefits for muscle strengthening and stabilizing treatments for lower limbs.

Outcome after Modified Maquet Procedure in dogs with unilateral cranial cruciate ligament rupture: Evaluation of recovery limb function by use of force plate gait analysis

Giovanni Della Valle et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the outcomes of dogs undergoing the Modified Maquet Procedure for cranial cruciate ligament rupture using force plate gait analysis. The results showed significant improvement in ground reaction forces post-surgery, with 54.2% of patients demonstrating normal gait symmetry and complete bone healing observed at the 90-day follow-up. Three major and one minor complications were reported, indicating that the Modified Maquet Procedure is an effective method to stabilize the stifle joint.

OpenPose: Realtime Multi-Person 2D Pose Estimation Using Part Affinity Fields

Zhe Cao et al.

Summary: This work presents a real-time approach to detect the 2D pose of multiple people in an image, achieving high accuracy and real-time performance regardless of the number of people in the image. By refining PAFs separately, both runtime performance and accuracy are significantly improved. Additionally, the first combined body and foot keypoint detector reduces inference time and maintains accuracy compared to running them sequentially.
