SkinCell: A Modular Tactile Sensor Patch for Physical Human-Robot Interaction

Ruoshi Zhang et al.

Summary: In this article, a novel tactile array sensor called SkinCell is presented for human-robot interaction applications. The sensor is fabricated using a polyimide sheet as the substrate and gold electrodes with circular interdigitated finger patterns. It features a 4 x 4 sensor array with 16 tactile elements. The sensors are laminated in a back-to-back configuration to reduce temperature coupling and improve sensitivity, and they are encapsulated between two layers of silicone elastomer to enhance sensitivity and repeatability. The integrated SkinCell sensors are capable of acquiring squeezing pressure data during physical human-robot interaction.

Research on Finger Pressure Tactile Sensor with Square Hole Structure Based on Fiber Bragg Grating

Guan Lu et al.

Summary: In this paper, a flexible tactile sensor with a square hole structure based on fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is proposed to solve the problems of lateral force interference and non-uniform strain in the process of pressure tactile sensing for robot fingers. The sensor has been designed, fabricated, and tested, and the experimental results demonstrate its good repeatability and creep resistance. The sensor effectively reduces lateral force interference, solves the problem of non-uniform strain, and has high fit with fingers, making it valuable for the research of robot pressure tactile intelligent perception.

Haptic Feedback Device Using 3D-Printed Flexible, Multilayered Piezoelectric Coating for In-Car Touchscreen Interface

Van-Cuong Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study focuses on developing a piezoelectric device that can generate feedback vibrations for the user. The goal is to explore the possibility of replacing physical buttons on in-car systems with a haptic system. An FEM model was used to optimize the haptic performance of the wafer structure, and various parameters were shown to impact the device's ability to actuate. The study also found that a multilayered design can enhance the haptic performance while preventing electrical breakdown.
