Inspection of various grain morphology parameters based on wave velocity measurements on three different granular materials

Does glacial environment produce glacial mineral grains? Pro- and supra-glacial Icelandic sediments in microtextural study

Summary: This study examines mineral grains from proglacial and supraglacial sedimentary environments in central south-eastern Iceland using scanning electron microscope techniques. The findings suggest that quartz grains from glacial-related sedimentary environments are indeed of glacial origin. The study also reveals that glacial grains diminish with distance from a glacier, while fine-grained cryoconite mineral grains may have glacially-induced microtextures due to grain-crushing. Additionally, the grain types in adjacent cryoconite holes are different, indicating their independence and randomness.

Micro-scale frost-weathering simulation - Changes in grain-size composition and influencing factors

Applicability of automatic image analysis in quartz-grain shape discrimination for sedimentary setting reconstruction

The study found that the circularity parameter was most effective in distinguishing grains from different sedimentary environments, while the aspect ratio was useful for analyzing grain sphericity. Grains with high roundness could have either low or high sphericity, representing characteristics of long-term reworking by eolian and fluvial processes. Grains with low sphericity and high roundness, typically found in transport prevailing environments, should be considered a shape inheritance.
