Prenatal exposure to ambient particle radioactivity and fetal growth in Eastern Massachusetts

Veronica A. Wang et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively examined the association between particle radioactivity (PR) and fetal growth in pregnancies. The results showed that PR exposure was negatively associated with fetal growth before 24 weeks' gestation and positively associated after 24 weeks. This study highlights the importance of considering environmental exposure on fetal development.

Exposure to PM2.5 during Pregnancy and Fetal Growth in Eastern Massachusetts, USA

Michael Leung et al.

Summary: This study examined the association between PM2.5 exposure during pregnancy and fetal growth measures in a pregnancy cohort in Eastern Massachusetts. The results show that higher gestational exposure to PM2.5 is associated with smaller fetal growth measures, particularly for biparietal diameter, abdominal circumference, and birth weight.

Associations between solar and geomagnetic activity and peripheral white blood cells in the Normative Aging Study

Samantha M. Tracy et al.

Summary: The study indicates that solar and geomagnetic activity can influence white blood cell counts, potentially leading to mild immune suppression. These associations remain significant even after adjustments and appear to strengthen with longer durations.

Solar and geomagnetic activity reduces pulmonary function and enhances particulate pollution effects

Kritika Anand et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between solar and geomagnetic activity (SGA) and pulmonary function, as well as the potential enhanced effects of particulate pollution on pulmonary function. The results suggest that increased SGA may directly contribute to impaired pulmonary function and enhance the effects of particulate pollution.

The role of solar and geomagnetic activity in endothelial activation and inflammation in the NAS cohort

Jessica Schiff et al.

Summary: This study found associations between solar and geomagnetic activity and circulating biomarkers of systemic inflammation and endothelial activation. Solar activity and geomagnetic activity were positively associated with concentrations of intracellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1) and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (sVCAM-1), negatively associated with fibrinogen, and positively associated with C-reactive protein (CRP).

Melatonin decreases and cytokines increase in women with placental insufficiency

Andrii Berbets et al.

Summary: The study observed that the levels of melatonin significantly decreased in pregnant women with placental insufficiency, while proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines increased. This condition may lead to the development of intrauterine growth restriction syndrome in the fetus.

A spatiotemporal ensemble model to predict gross beta particulate radioactivity across the contiguous United States

Longxiang Li et al.

Summary: This study estimated the monthly distributions of gross beta particulate radioactivity in the contiguous United States from 2001 to 2017 with a spatial resolution of 32 km. The results showed that a non-negative geographically and temporally weighted regression ensemble learning model outperformed all base learning models in accuracy. This model provides an accurate estimation of particulate radioactivity for future health studies.

The impact of solar activity on ambient ultrafine particle concentrations: An analysis based on 19-year measurements in Boston, USA

Carolina L. Zilli Vieira et al.

Summary: Solar radiation, particularly the solar activity index F10.7, has a significant impact on daily ultrafine particle concentrations in the Boston area over a 19-year period, especially during winter and fall. Shortwave solar radiation and black carbon also play a role in affecting ambient ultrafine particle concentrations.

Solar Activity Is Associated With Diastolic and Systolic Blood Pressure in Elderly Adults

Veronica A. Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that solar activity and solar-driven geomagnetic disturbances were positively associated with blood pressure in elderly men, indicating that these natural phenomena may influence blood pressure in this population.

Higher Sun Exposure in the First Trimester Is Associated With Reduced Preterm Birth; A Scottish Population Cohort Study Using Linked Maternity and Meteorological Records

Lauren Megaw et al.

Summary: The study showed that increased available sun exposure in the first trimester of pregnancy was associated with a reduced risk of preterm birth, with evidence of a dose-response. However, no significant association was found between preterm birth and second trimester available sun exposure or combined first and second trimester exposure.
